Default Pickle forks tough to get on plane?

I've got a pickle fork that I posted questions about the K&B 7.5 engine I have. I got the boat as a bare wood, complete hull, with no electronics. It is almost complete now, and was told today that pickle forks are hard to get on plane. You have to give them a pretty good hand launch to get them going. Is this true? I would think that is a design issue that could be fairly easily resolved with ballast or trim. How could you put-put around and then throttle up if they won't plane? I think someone who had bad luck with one is holding a grudge. But you guys should be able to let me know.

Ya dude. they can be a bit of a pain to get on plane. Hydro hulls a ment to run dry ( very little of the hull in the water ) so there is a lot of drag until there is enough speed to get the hull up out of the water .The right prop and or a anti cavitation plate can make all the differnce.

Actually, it depends on the boat. The 1/12th Buds are notorious for being hard to get up on plane, while some of the scratch builts literally jump up on plane. While Toxic is correct about props, I've never personnally seen a hydro with an anticavitation plate. Extra weight at the transom is never a good thing on a hydro. That's one of the Buds problems, they're tail heavy. With the radio gear so far back, the poor prop is overloaded to the point it has a hard time lifting the hull, especially with the little Dynamite .15. The boats very underpowered for it's size to complicate things even more.

This is a cav. plate I made for my Miss Bud . It gets the boat on plane alot faster but tends to make the rear end swap ends (spin out ) on turns so I took it off and just deal with it.
