Default new mono scratch build

well this is the start of my new mono hull built from plans!!,not a wildthing just looks like one.[img][/img]heres a cpl of pics so far!!.im using 3/16 ply for the hull transome and bulkheads engine rail etc.i couldnt get 1/8 ply so the hull is 3/16 but the deck will either be 1/16 ply or im toying with the idea of coro for the deck.im thinking of adding gunnels that are 1/4 "higher than the hull sides so leaving a lip all the way round so the coro sits into it .the reason for using coro is lightness having made the hull slightly heavier than the plans suggest.my engine will be an sc 61 size plane engine water cooled with a coil.any help regarding prop size shaft and couplings much appreciated !!.oh i know you marine engine lovers wont approve but i cant afford a marine engine at the min and i think this engine will do me fine for now!!.so come on guys let me know what you think of her and feel free to offer advice etc.

Try doing an "Edit" on your postings then an advanced mode will come up so no need to keep trying with another posting. I took one off to shorten this thread a bit.
What engine are you going to go with? It's in the "tweener" area, between a .21 and .45 engine for the hull size.
If you don't add the windshield area that the gas boat did, it will look kind of like the Wild Thing otherwise it has an Insane mono look to it.

I think the boat you are referring to is the one this guy is making. He is making everything form scratch but motor and control’s it looks vary much like the wiled thing I think with some changes they also make refrains to the sea duck check it out vary cool and nice thread it gave me some ideas for my boat. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2402672/tm.htm

He changed the shape some still vary nice boat tho. Looks like you are doing well, my boat is going vary slow don’t have much time to work on it but I have lost of winter to work with ruffle 4 months left. Thinking of making a boat similar to the one you are making as well. I like building hehe it will be from my own plans thou I draw blue prints for a living so its real simple for me prob take bout 1hr to make some nice v hull plans if I have the dimensions worked out. I’m thinking r/c out board tub boat racer would be fun, my dad has a full size one think I may get the dimensions from it and scale down. Anyway keep it up

martino 1 fan i got your email and i think if you go buy one ofn those cheep dremil kits that have the flex cord in the it might work as a flex shaft for a cheeper option cos there only like $30 it might break though co they are a bit thin the pic at the bottom are of my chep dremil and its flex shaft that came with it is the same diamiter of my mouse cord so probably 3mm i dont knoe what sort of flex shaft you use when you build a nitro boat but you could try it if you do try to do it keep us posted.

glad you got the plans mate good luck with the build!!,dremel hmm!!not sure thats an option i doubt it would be strong enough and anyway be cheaper to buy a flexishaft i think!!.the more i think about it the more i think im gonna go sub surface drive .thanks for the idea though it might work for an electric set up but im putting a 61 in mine .

no, sub surface drive are limeted in prop size and performance, any reason for the decision, an adjustable surface drive is so much better and will not dissapoint you...i think any performance boater will tell you its the way to go.

i know the flexi drives are easyer to adjust etc but my funds are limited and i want to get this thing in the water i have been told which prop etc to try for sub surface so are you saying sub surface isnt any good?.werent all boats sub surface at one time?£25 for sub surface against £50 for a surface set up is a big price difference is it really gonna give me that much more speed?.i think i could try the sub surface and see how it goes if im not happy then i can allways try a surface set up when i can afford it!!.im not saying your wrong just that i cant afford that set up at this time.any help on setting up a sub surface set up much appreciated thanks!!.

im thinking of mounting the engine midships for balance the thing im wondering about is how far from the transome should i drill for the shaft to exit?i was thinking of having the angle so the prop has about 1/4 inch clearance from the hull but im not sure how far from the transome the shaft needs to come out?.assuming i have the prop about an inch short of the transome any ideas anyone?i supose i could work out the angle and see where that leaves the engine and go from there?
