What I think is it's not a scale model, but rather a sport boat with Elam markings. This isn't a bad thing, but I would need to see more before I give the boat a yeah or nay

It may be larger than 1/12 but no, it's not 1/8 scale. The size should fit into the Sport 20 hydro minimum size though for competition.

Thoughts from the mouth of kurt about this Elam. Looks to me like a Miss Bud Competitor. The Specs are mostly identical to the Bud 1/12th. As far as beam, length and weight. Hull design looks a bit different. Though, the 18 is a nice option for these boats. It seems like they took all of the problems that plagued the Bud and worked them out. Also, they are offering a futaba radio instead of the JR. I'm not sure if that means anything. I like the new engine compartment design for its extra room though, I'm sceptical about flooding. It is a new product release and by nature it will have bugs to work out. So the real testing will begin as soon as the weather breaks I assume. Right now I'd say it's a good buy for the $.

I'm a liar. I just checked and the Elam is about 5" longer than the Bud. So maybe it needs that .18.

the "5" inches longer may not effect it cuz it will be out of the water like if the planing surface was 5 inches longer then i will need a .18 and as far as the radio the futaba is a great add on it has better reception

I already wrote about this boat in another thread but will bring it up here. The price will be $279.00, $20.00 cheaper than the Miss Bud/Llumar. 6 MPH faster out of the box than the ProBoat. Although it comes with an .18, it will handle a .21 and a lot of people will do that to make it competitive in the IMPBA Sport 20 hydro class. Price a decent Sport 20 hull and it will cost you just about what this complete boat does.
No nasty habits like its competition like cavitating. It will go from slow to full throttle without cavitating. A friend of mine recently got a job at Hobbico/Aquacraft has driven the pre-production boats and loves them.
Watch the video closely and see how it rides. Now watch a video of a Miss Bud and watch how the rear rides in the water, not on.
Delivery is scheduled for mid-March. A problem was found on the production boats and will be fixed before any go out the door. If any of you want one, get your orders in now as the first shipment will go quickly and the next delivery won't be until around June.

If he says it's 6MPH faster then the Bud boat, then I would guestimate a solid 30MPH with a properly tuned engine. IMO

Yes I do. It was in the flex cable coupler.
Jerry Dunlap has one and clocked it at 33 MPH and happens to have a Miss Bud also that he only got 27 out of. He did try the new OS .18 car/truck engine in it with a modified cowling and got much more speed out of it.
Word is that if you do want one, order it from your local hobby shop, not Tower as they will have them about 1 month sooner. If you want to wait the extra time, you can use a Tower discount coupon towards it.

Wave waker, the boat isn't anything close to a scale representation, it's a 32.5 inch sport hull. Going off the box picture, the sponsons and cowling are both wrong for a scale Elam. It falls into the same catagory as many of the boats with Bud markings, a hull with Bud markings and no hint of scale looks.

You don't want pointy front sponsons, you could take an eye out with them! Seriously, rounded front sponsons make a boat that isn't sensitve to inputs at speed.
So what if it doesn't have a wing on the front? What good do they do on the Miss Bud? Some have cut them off and the boat handles much better.
