Default Help, Engine Placement & Drive Gear

I need help with the basic balancing (engine placement and other equipment) for a deep vee boat. Is there a rule or fomula for working out how far to sit the engine from the transom etc. I'm used to planes where a balance point is shown on plans. I've got a Crackerbox style plan 19-20 inch long and wish to use an OS 10 marine engine. Can someone tell if I should go regular or surface drive ,flexishat, straight shaft and what size prop would suit such a set up. All help appreciated.
