You can get the Firefighter .12 from 2 places, one is from the designer, Tom Moorehouse at www.firefighterboats.com or www.welasercut.com . Being in the US I'd advise going through Tom as getting anything from Canada takes forever.
The boat from Tony Marquart is nice also. Spend the money and get the Solinger strut and rudder combo. It's very light and these boats need all of the lightness that you can put into them.
I've got two .12 'riggers myself so I do have some experience with them.

The Solinger strut and rudder are on Tom's site as he is one of the sellers of it here in the US. Tony might be selling it also.
I've got a Trinity/Picco .12 that I've been using in one of my .12 monos, it's a good little engine for boat use.
You'll need a flywheel. I've been using the one made by OS. The flex cable coupler will be from Octura and flex cable (if the Solinger strudder doesn't come with it) preferably from Hughey.
I get a lot of my stuff from Gary Preusse in the Chicago area. He's not online so you have to call him at 630-279-2451. He won't have the flywheel and a few other pieces but he can set you up with any Octura parts that you need. He's also a Hi-tec dealer so if you need any lightweight servos you can use the HS81-MG's for both duties.

Here's the flywheel: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXCB06&P=RF
If you have the side exhaust Picco without the round port I've found that the Traxxas header works great and even better with a little port matching work done: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXJM08&P=RF
I can help you out a little more as things start happening. Tony sent me a PM earlier today from another forum site. I helped him out a little with getting things going on the kit. He actually had nice enough weather today to get some run time in on his boat.

No, it won't. I picked up some spare Picco's off eBay because I liked them so well and because I had one crank break at the threads (don't ask how it happened but it wasn't pretty). One had the crank cut short for probably an Associated truck and I couldn't use it because there wasn't enough for the flywheel and flex cable coupler. You need the fully threaded shaft. I even tried other flywheels that I had and still no luck.

RE: want good .12 outrigger
ok so what about an xtm .18 with rear exhaust, and does anyone run surface drives why/whynot is it because the boat needs to be out of the water, like do thes boats run on the prop and the front sponsons more than half the time

RE: want good .12 outrigger
The XTM .18 is a wicked engine as my son had the X-Cellerator but you're running into a problem with most .12-.18's that us boaters are running into more and more. It has the SG threaded shaft which is all but impossible to put a flex cable collet onto. You really need the fully threaded shaft, no way around it. A rotary carb is preferred but a slide carb can be hooked up with a little more work. What type of exhaust the engine has is no big deal but finding the right one for a boat takes some shopping.
I've been messing aorund with .12 powered boats since before they got popular and it was much more difficult back then to find parts.
Seeing how you're building a hydro, I hope that this isn't your first boat project as they are a lot tricker to set up than they look.
Yes, it will be a surface drive. If you are new to hydro's, I'd recommend that you start off with a non-lifting prop on that boat to make it more drivable such as a Prather 215 or Octura X-437 or X-438. Save props like the Octura V-937/3 for once you get some time with it.

The .18 can be a little much for some of the kits. Tom Moorehouse is working on a Firefighter .18 that will be made to handle the extra power.
As a side note, this year the Hydro Masters is considering including the "A" (.12 class) for the first time to their meet. We'll be waiting to see who wins on Sunday and sells on Monday. I'm expecting the competition to be fierce and seeing how many of the bigger 'rigger owners start buying these little monsters up.
