You won't find a marine turbine set up on E-Bay, period. You won't find an R/C turbine for $500 either. A new Wren turbine will run you at least $1500-2000, including control circuitry. One thing people forget about when they see something like this boat is the very short run times. These turbine engines are very thirsty, so unless you build a larger boat to allow for more fuel, plan on only two or three minutes per run. That's probably what happened to the boat in the video, it ran out of fuel. Just so all of you that have to have one of these know, the MHZ marine set up specs are very similar to a Zenoah G26. So, which would you rather have, long run times and money for gas or short run times and scrounging for change to buy kerosene?

And to add to this, from what I've seen from the jet guys, the operation of a turbine is way more complex than a simple nitro engine. They tend to make them look easy because most of them have lots of experience and have developed the methodology needed to help avoid problems.

While I am impressed with the technical achievement represented by that boat, the reality is that the overall weight and relative power of the engine makes this boat non-compeditive compared to a nitro 1/8 scale boat. My Miss Bud with a CMB 67 EVO would have run laps around it like it was tied to the dock. Especially in the corners.
The corners in 1/8 scale racing are much, much tighter than the turns in full scale unlimited racing. The loss of rpms in the corners results in a drastic loss of power in the turbin engine. While a full size boat might go from 50,000 rpms(15,000 at the output shaft), to 35,000 rpms (11,000 at the output shaft) in the corners, the geared 1/8 scale turbine goes from 50,000 rpms to 15,000. For the scale boats that meane they still have 70% of their power, while the scale turbine only has 30% of it's available power.
A nitro boat has upwards of 80% of its power in the corners, in fact do to the rotation of the hull a properly set up boat will actually accelerate in the corners then sag as it straightens out, only to accelerate down the stretch.
If the race was quite long and in a straight line the turbine would have the advantage, but these same problems are what make the Y2K turbine motorcycle one of the fastest motorcycles in the world, and also one of the worst to drive around town.

Chrysler started to build turbine cars in the mid 50's right up to 1977. They were concept cars and were never for sale to the public.

Deifinitely a toy for those with very deep pockets. Mine are shallow with lint.

I've been tracking the build on that Miss Llumar. The boat was built in Germany and is carbon fiber. What you see in that video is lots of time and money (we are talking over $5,000 just in design, build and turbine outside of all the electronics and other necessary components) invested along with a lot of careful testing and tuning from the electronic controlling to the custom gearbox and up. The owner of the boat, Chris, is an expert builder and this is NOT some off the shelf toy you want just because it sounds and looks cool. That turbine gets any water close to it and it's toast. This was a complex build with people who are seasoned professionals in their respective fields and it's still a work in progress.

I see now they put a salt water scoop like I did with my hydro! Looks awsome!! But I see one proublem with that boat! Its pushing water in the front=to much weight in the front end! But some day I'd would like to build one in my hydro boat verson the MISS BLUEANGEL!! This jet turbine would fit the look of my boat!!
