Hi Johnny I have a friend here in NZ who has seen this boat and he says that it would need a lot of work to get up and running. Motor has had a rough time and gear drive is pretty worn. I was thinking of purchasing myself but instaed decided to purchase a new 1/12 Miss Elam Hydro through High Performance Models.

Hey there, Johnnie! I think it will go in the 30+ mph range. The $200 NZ Dollars converts to around $135 USD, so the price seems decent to me. If I were buying, I'd first try running as it is, but would most likely want to "Americanize" it with rear mounted strut and rudder... I'd keep the gear drive and lengthen the sub-surface stuffin' tube to get the prop behind the boat. Those older Rossi .21s are good engines. Should be fun!

Hi gasboatracer, not sure where you could get new gears from, could end up costing you a packet!. You would be better to see if you can arrange with buyer to have a look at either. As from experience with purchasing off Trade Me in NZ, never go off what the seller says. If you don't want to spend a lot of money then I would stay away from either.
Check out the Manukau Model Power Boat club web site forum, you can ask questions there and someone will get back to you. As you want to make sure that you can still readily get parts to fix either boat IN nz. As living in NZ can be a disadvantage at times when trying to get hold of parts....unlike the States where most things are readily available!!!
Purchased my RTR Miss Elam for $575, one of the better rtr kits I have purchased!. Since then I think High Performance Models in Whangaparoa have increased their price to $700. You could probably bring a kit in from Tower Hobbies for slightly less, but I did not want to have to wait.
I have purchased many an RC boat off Trade Me and in the end with the money I spent on them I could have bought several RTR kits.

The red one will need some work done to it as the exhaust system is way too long. Both boats look kind of cobbled together.

The copper plumbing needs to go along with the tuned pipe. The owner did a lot of patchwork just to the the exhaust out and messed it up as the way that it is is hurting performance. There are optimum lengths that the pipe has to be to work properly and it's way to long to be effective.

The trick is to find a Nova Rossi dealer near you or one that will ship to NZ. you'll need a new header and tuned pipe for starters as from the shots it's difficult to see what else it will need.

here is how My exhaust is run
Also the red one looks to be in the best shape to work with kinda neat lookin it needs a killer paint job to set it off no flames or graphics but something like a deep candy red with red or gold flake in the candy top it off with the name of the boat going down the side in gold leaf with a nice clear over it all, give it kinda an old school look..and if its not fast it will still look great!
