Does anyone have problems with the carb stop screw loosening?
Yes, I ended up using lock-tite to lock it in to position. If I ever need it out again, a little heat will break the lock-tite bond.

Great Paul, guess I will have to get around to installing and breaking-in the OS .12 I bought. Must have a LOT more power then the .12 Dynamite I am now running. Can't get mine to turn a x440 and no way on 215 . X632 & X435 seems like all I can run. Runs good with them but not getting near your speeds you are I am at about 35-38 mph. Sure HATE the break-in procedures[>:]

I am 8 - 8 1/4 some where between there, with a muffler on the end of the pipe. I am not sure about the bigger prop, I have a x442 but that is just a little too much and the x440 isn't enough the 215 gives me the best speed.

Paul
Paul, can you give me an idea of the prop heigth AND the angle on the strut you are using ?
Are you making many changes to these two items when you change props ?
THANKS
Ralph

My strut is running flat with the bottom of the boat and the depth is 1/2" on centerline off the bottom of the boat. When I have tried changing props , No I haven't tried messing with strut height or angle. Tom Moorehouse told me strut should be 1/2" from the bottom of the boat to the bottom of the strut, I lowered my strut just a little in an attempt to get the rear end up a little.

Thanks Paul, I may need to lower my strut some.
How about the trailing edge of your rear sponsons, Does that 1/2" take your strut down below the trailing edge of your rear sponsons ?
Really appreciate your help.

The rear sponsons are not suppose to touch the water in the straight, they are to aid in the turns. They should be 3/16" above the bottom of the strut, so if the strut is 1/2" off bottom of tub then the TE of the rear sponsons should be 5/16" off the bottom of the tub. Hope that helps

THANKS Paul, you made that very easy to understand . I am learning a lot about riggers, they are sure complicated but also LOTS of FUN. I will try some adjustments.
THANKS for the help !

gooycheese, can you tell me what rudder you are using on your boat & how far back you have it set.
I think mine is a little heavy and clunky, but looks nice. Thinking about making a change.
THANKS

I am using Hughey hardware, the strut and rudder mount on the same bracket. This hardware is used for FE boats, but it seams to be working good for me. I have broke my rudder off atleast 4x so far and Ive bought 2 and Ive repaired it atleast 3x. I have been told that this hardware is on the heavy side but it seams fine, not real heavy. These are some pics of the rear end of the boat. Ohhh I cant adjust the rudder forward or back it is where it is.

Thanks for the info, but boy that sounds like a lot of breakage. Might just keep what I got, don't think I could ever break this Fuller rudder.

The only time it has broke is hitting shore and falling of table one time, I would rather the rudder break than the transom.

Paul, any idea where I can purchase JUST the rudder, looks like it might fit my hardware. Might be worth a try.
Thanks

Ralph,

You can get the rudder from Fullers Fast Electrics, they also sell your hardware ( mine is called a Blade Rudder).

May have to change my rudder assy, completely. Been talking to Fuller and they say the leading eadge of the rudder should be even with the drive dog. No way I can do that with my set up, it will hit the prop when I turn and I run small prop X435. I need a rudder set up that would offset the rudder over to the right to give clearence. Any suggestions ? My transom is only 2 3/4" wide. I only have 1 3/8" from the center of the strut to the right end of the transom.

Just an update on my .12 rigger.
Was running the best it has so far today
Then broke a drive cable and lost my best prop, X435 []

Well I ordered a new cable and prop from Offshore Electrics so will be down for a bit.

Question......The back end was bouncing a little today going down the straights ( may have been what caused the shaft to break, broke at the end were the strut piece attaches). Water was calm. Only real change I made was to move my 1 oz battery up about 1 inch.

What usually causes the back end to bounce on a rigger ?

I'm sure all my hard launches into the lake on take off didn't help matters either, but it broke after a few laps on a straight away.

This will also give me a better chance to work on getting it to run with a Y535, with hopes of one day getting the b215 to run.

Have a Safe & GREAT July 4 !!

What is your thrust angle set at? Is it pointing down?

What is your angle of attack on your rear sponsons? It should be about 1 degree or 1.5 degree. The angle of attack is the angle the sponsons ride in the water, if your sponsons look level on the tops then for sure the bottoms have too much angle of attack. The rear sponsons should point a little bit down here is a pic of mine, I talked on the phone with Tom Moorehouse and he explained the correct way for me to set them up.

Paul

Ummm in the straights the rears shouldnt even be touching the water, you may be too deep with them. I just went in the garage and took this pic it is the most current pic I have of setup.

It looks a little bit more than what I would prefer. Or maybe it's just my eyes.

Looks like the thrust angle is pointing down in the picture too. Might just be my eyes...or the picture. But the "nah nah nah nah" running I experienced was when I had the prop pointing down, and it would keep pushing the rear end of the boat out of the water over and over again.

I think you are right, I just rechecked it and it is down about 1 degree. I'll reset it to zero and see what happens.
Thanks

Wow, what a great day at the lake today ! After breaking a shaft and losing my best x435 prop last Tuesday. I was really down. I had a spare shaft so I put it in and sharpened, polished & balanced an Auqacraft Grim AQUB9700 36x55 prop I had just gotten. Grim says it’s close to the y535 prop (which I never had any luck with) but it worked GREAT. I re-set the thrust angle to zero as Sean had noticed and let her rip ! What a difference she was flying. Took almost ¾ of a second of my best lap time and was much easier to launch. What a great feeling, my next step will be to try to get the p215 to work. Riggers are A LOT of work but when they are working there is nothing like them.
THANKS you ALL for your help, could not have got this far with out it, especially Sean & Paul
