Default RE: Winter Build - Rigger -

I went to LHS today and was looking around asked about the parts I ordered Tuesday, they said they ordered them this morning and they should be in tomorrow. I am getting new connecting rod /wrist pin/keepers and front and rear bearings. Not sure I mentioned this but on the 30th of June I drove boat on shore at almost full speed. I went to bring boat in was acting funny, coming up to shore went to shut engine down and boat didn't slow at all just flew right up shore (about 15'). So needless to say I broke rudder twisted flex in 2 pieces dinged prop and turn fin. Went home took everything apart and fixed everything that was broke went back out, started boat went about 100' died brought it back in tried richening it up and restarted ran for a few seconds then stop instantly so I knew I broke connecting rod at least. Ohhhh the engine wouldn't shut down because the nut that holds the throttle arm on came loose and had no control of throttle then. Anyway I should be running tomorrow night if all goes well.

Paul

Glad to hear your getting happier with your boat Ralph, it will get better yet still.

Boy that Stinks ! Sure you will get it going soon, keep us up-dated. I had almost the same thing happen to me last week, my throttle rod where it screws into the clip that holds it on the carb stripped out, lucky it didn't go wide open but I could not shut it off coming in to shore and ran up on shore, glad I was right there and covered the exhaust to shut it off. I have since soldered the rod to the clip so that won't happen again.
Your new Hawk 7.5 should really FLY and what a DEAL !!

The funny thing was I came home 9pm Saturday night took the OS engine out put the traxxas engine in so I could race the next day. I go out 615am Sunday morning to make sure the boat is running , do a few laps and the boat dies (fished it out) find that the HSN mount snapped off. So went back home scavenged a HSN of another carb and went back to test. got the boat running ok and went to the race, at the race boat ran like crap ( so all in all it was a really bad day for me racing/boating).

Paul

Oh next weekend I race at the Badger Model Boat Club in Kenosha, Wisconsin ( a week from this Saturday and Sunday).

Well I hope all is good again, I put engine back together with new bearings / connecting rod / wrist pin and keepers. Geez this is starting to get expensive, I have put more money into this engine maintaining it than it cost to buy it ( $60 tonight for the parts listed)( past parts bought $20 new rear bearing, $60 piston and sleeve, $20 connecting rod, $6 wrist pin,$2 keepers) Tomorrow will go and test boat make sure its working well so I can try and race it again next weekend.

I bought 4 gallons of fuel before the season started, hoping they would last the whole year. I have used about 1 1/2 gallons so far but I have only 1 boat running. I should put my TC31 back together next weekend and a month later the 40 rigger should be running, sooooo that 2 1/2 gallons I got left will go fast coming real soon. 2 gallons 40% and 2 gallons 60% cost me $93.50 total.

Paul, I called David this morning and ordered one of his mufflers for my latest project. I tried to get a measurement on the OD of the stinger but my digital caliper isn't exactly precise. I just told him that I needed one just like yours.

David recommended either loctite or JB welding the muffler on, I just dimpled my pipe a little ( so set screws would sit in dimples) and loctite my set screws and so far muffler is working perfect and hasn't slipped at all. He said to do this so it wont fall off and is lost but so far its solid. He also said that I might have to sand down the end of my pipe so the muffler would fit, I did that so the muffler fit very snug so it wouldn't want to come off either.

I am still running my .12 Dynamite engine and the little engine is like the energize bunny, (keeps going and going) can't really complain about it. I have a NEW OS .12 CV-R 10E-R engine if I need it, but I also came across a NEW OS .15 CV-R 10E-R any opinions on which of the two NEW engines is better ? They look the same only the .15 is .03 bigger . Anyone know if that is the ONLY difference ?
THANKS
Ralph

I just took my boat out for a short run to make sure it was all good, and so far so good. Tomorrow I will try and race against the B Hydros again, and also on Sunday (I just hope I can finish the races, it seams every time I run at home the boat runs good and at the races its a dog). Will post tomorrow night let ya know how it went.

Well this weekend was my best preforming weekend at the races. I didn't win or nothing like that but people where somewhat impressed with the way my little .12 ran. On Saturday I did take a 2nd overall for B hydro, yes there was only 3 boats and and after 3 heats both of us had only finished 2nd in 1 heat but in run off he was able to continue ...........so I took second. I ran heat 2&3 with the front of my boat ripped off from the booms forward, I duct tape it so it would let water rush in and was able to get a second in heat too like that. I hit buoy 6 and my nose stayed there, got the nose out of the buoy took the boat home Saturday night did a patch job and was back racing Sunday. Sunday wasn't so good, my boat ran pretty good, but I was racing against Grimracer and Big Brian and Buddy Beard ( Grims boat is a rocket, I didn't have a chance to even come close). I do have an issue with fuel still I gotta figure a way to get more fuel on board, 1st heat radio problem/2nd heat finished ran out of fuel doing a lap after race/3rd heat ran out of fuel at buoy 5 in last lap . I am waiting to 1:30 before I even try and start and actually hit the water at 1:00 so I cant really wait much longer just in case there is a starting problem. I think I will either try and make a tank or will try and make a new front cover so i can run a full 4oz.

I will post pics later today, but I drove boat on shore hard today. Radio stop receiving and hit shore full speed, boat went about 5-6' in the air and about 30-40' up shore. Broke rudder broke turn fin broke transom, will let boat dry out and re-work transom (just need boat to last for 3 more races). Then this fall/winter will remake complete boat, I may make this boat a .21 and make a .12 mono just a thought.

Boy nothing but bad luck for you lately.......that stinks !
I am running a fail safe in mine, some peace of mind. I also like the fact that if it dies out in the lake and I have to push it in I first shut off my transmitter and it closes the carb throttle. Keeps a lot of water out.

What fail safe are you using? I am planning on getting atleast 2, one for the .12 and one for the Hawk. Here are the pics of the boat before I try and do repairs, I will need a failsafe for this boat before I run again.

Paul

p.s. Sorry about poor pic quality.

I'm running a OFNA Micro Fail Safe Unit # 91002. Small, light, and easy to hook-up and use.

Preparing a OS .12 CV-R engine to replace my Dynamite .12 SPD motor in my rigger in the future, have a question on the flywheel setup. I am using a OS 71801040 (#1D) http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...1040&search=Go is it correct to use the Drive Hub between the flywheel and the engine ? As in the pictures ?

Hi all,

Just wanted to post a pic of my .12 blazzin before I build a new one over the winter, this one is Frankenstein. I did race this weekend and did pretty good in B Hydro class (my boat is A Hydro for those that don't know classes). The front sponsons where cut out and built between Wednesday and Friday last week and raced on Saturday, I was a little nervous because I didn't get a chance to test them (wasn't sure if the boat would even track straight) but the boat ran great. I think the new sponsons will be kept and just make a new tub because this one has been patched so many times. I will say the fastest boats don't always win, my little .12 beat 2 eagles and a warlock to get the position it got, ya got finish to place/win.

Paul

Ohhh this was the first time this boat placed so I was pretty happy, and I did run the last heat knowing my rudder would fall off hoping to get the start so 4th place overall would have to place 2nd or better in that heat to beat me over all ( I did get the start and did make a lap and a half before rudder let go and fell off).

Great Job Paul, 3rd in B Hydro is great for a .12 rigger ! Like you say main thing is to finish the race.
Got to ask you were did you get that carb. snorkel, lot better looking then the spark plug rubber I'm using.
