solid drive shaft is real pain in the [email protected]#$%!, i end up cutting the tunnel roof too much to align the shaft but still won't work,so i'm putting this flexshaft.

question pls. what comes first, mount the engine or secure and glue the stuffing tube??thanks

You're going to need a longer tube. Ever seen when Elmer Fudd is trying to shoot Bugs Bunny and Bugs sticks his finger in the barrel and it blows apart? Cable whip will make the brass tubing look just like that. I'm hoping that it's only a trial fit right now.
Usually, mount the engine and your transom hardware then connect the stuffing tube to where it needs to be.

got question before i finalized cutting this tube,, i have a 7/32" tube as the liner and 1/4" as the outer tube,, i'm kinda confuse coz i saw some boats the inner tube is longer than the outer tube...any suggestions?? which is longer?

On my hardware my smaller happens to be teflon and it is longer cause it slides into the strut, if i used brass it would be same smaller is longerit goes in the strut about 1/8 inch and stick out by the coupler about 1/16. I put my tubing with the flex cable all together and bent like that, i didnt kink anything and got the slight s bend.

I hope this helps

Paul

what size shaft are you using, .150?

I have some dirrections from some others about the same type of stuff

This was the directions I got for a .150 flex shaft.

The main stuffing tube will be a 1/4" ID tube. Glue a piece of 9/32" into the tub that goes through the engine/radio bulkhead and through the bottom of the tub inside the radio box. The exact position you will have to work out on your own, as we are not there to show you. With the strut in place, about where you think it should be, and a pin in your engine's collet (stepped up with brass tubing to locate the main stuffing tube), suspend the stuffing tube (with "over" tube in place) between the strut and engine. Bend the stuffing tube around in such a way that it can float fairly freely, with no tension on the tub bottom or bulkhead. Glue the over tube in place with epoxy. When it's set up, remove the stuffing tube and start reinforcing the over tube with fibreglass, at both the bulkhead and tub bottom.

A slight curve in the over tube (close to level at the bulkhead and more angled at the tub bottom) will hold the stuffing tube in place after final installation, yet you will still be able to push it through the over tube.

Use a piece of 3/16" ID tubing for a strut bushing, with a very short piece of 1/4" tubing at one end to prevent it from sliding inside the stuffing tube. A few holes or slots will provide for good lubrication.

That's the basics. There's more if you need help.

Thanks. Brad.

ok! project is done though pipe looks funny..thinkin' of putting an airplane engine muffler for the looks......ran it twice and still needs more tweakin'...since CG moves forward a lot,,seems like the boat wants the prop set below the C/L and angle positive to get into plane,,it's a real funboat

Fun??? I had other words about it when you had it running Thursday... Seriously underpowered and the CG is way too far forward.. But keep thinking.......

it's fun to think what to do next to make it fast, the thing is very little time to test it in the water, btw, i ran it again friday with lil' bit better, boat started to get into plane but not enough, need to drop the prop below the C/L and angle it positively to get more prop bite and will give bow lift, the initial set up is like an outboard tunnel but this is really a different beast .
