Default Build a Baby Rigger with me! (FREE PLANS POSTED)

Ok i've been so inspired by all the little riggers you guys are building i'm thinking of a new project.

First I want to see if enough people are intrested to make a go of this. My thought would be to make a .09 rigger. I would design it and give the plans away free to anyone on this site that wants them. it would either use the russian engine like littlepistons or the trinity from tower: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXMYK5&P=7 either way it's super cheap.

What ya guys think??

My thing is i'd kinda like a partner to do this with. I enjoy scratch building boats and can do a good job at it. I do however get bored with setting up servos, stuffing box, hardware, and painting. so maybe i could work a deal where i build 2 boats doing all the wood work. then ship it to a partner and then they do the other stuff. then ship one back to me (the others is yours). make sense?

of course anyone else can join in as the plans will be free.

so what ya think?

Default RE: Build a Baby Rigger with me!

Thanks Tom,
Well that would be sweet, I have 2 of the russian motors on the way to me right now. I Have scaled the .12 rigger down 25% already and was gonna try building from that, but if new and improved plans are available soon i will wait to start the build. The partner idea would be great but, I am not that good at Painting or Electrical setup. This is the first boat I will ever have built myself, and the second boat of my own. But I would really love some plans that are scaled to the size boat I wanna build. And my build speed will be based on $$$$ to afford the hardware and supplies need to build, I know the boat will be finished and im gonna be waiting until I can afford the radio.

Paul

p.s. Alot of my money I will be saving for the holidays and my sons birthday gift feb27-march2, taking him and girlfriend to vegas he turns 21.

Tom,

Great idea. I have a couple of 1/2a sized outrigger plans that I have drawn up around here someplace. I just haven't had the time to build anything yet. Understand though that the Tower Hobbies website is alittle miss leading on that engine. It's NOT a .095! It's a .07, it's displacement is listed as .95cc or .07ci. it's a typo on their part calling it a .095.

LAter,
Tim

Well now I have 3 different sizes of ply 1 size balsa and i got a 4x8 sheet of foam lmao at the depot.
I am sorta just sitting watch the puter screen now hoping that some new plans are gonna be available soon Ya know i don't wanna use my scaled down plans if a set is gonna be made just for this size boat. Thank You just waiting patiently

Tom,

What do you think the tub length will be, and how far are the sponsons gonna be set apart?

I wish they would sell a throttled .010. That would be great for the smallest nitro rigger around.

Ok Here is a VERY early drawing. I'm posting it to get input. It has not been checked to see if stuff fits at all. It was drawn for performance requirements. Check to see what fits and let me know if it needs changes. I don't currently have an engine to measure. I know the servos will need to be flat not upright. I'm pretty sure I'll use the trinity motor as I can't find a russian .09 marine. Or maybe the AP Engines Hornet .09 R/C but i'm kinda leaning towards the pull start for a fun boat.

Early untested beta plans release. Use at your own risk! No support provided!

Ok I found the file to view the page, but there are no measurements. I am having alot of issues with my rigger being so small, now i am checking everything for size cause it does matter allot. It doe look like the radio wall is gonna be a little close to the motor and I am having fuel tank issues too, but I dont know these measurements.

Thanks Paul

I must say that this is gonna be a cool thread to follow as it goes -as im one of the people doing one of these style riggers at the minute!
but also DOH!!
y didnt i start with these plans and follow along lol[&:]

can i just ask TOM
as you design these - i actually made my tub wider by about 1" -will that affect the running at all?
it was to fit my engine so thats why i did it!

The free plans open with any CAD style program or viewer i think,
im Autocad ENabled but just not able!! oh well

If you went away from the pull start, that OS .18CVRM without a pull start is only 15 dollars more than the trinity with one...probably a bigger motor than you wanted to use... Not sure if you are trying for "cheap to build", "speed" or "small".

Also, your picture did not come through in your last post. http://www.firefighterboats.com/babbyff.gif comes up as a dead link to me.

im building my tub now and its 2 7/8 wide outside to outside I dont think the width of the tub will change the running of the wull much might make it more stable as the rear sponsons will have a little wider stance..just my idea anyway

Some of the hot little engines coming from the car and truck outfits will probably be a challenge to hook up to the drivelines as a lot of them look like they're using smaller SG type shafts.

this boat will be much too small for a .12-.18!

I use ww.deltacad.com for all my drawing. They have a free trial version. The worlds easiest cad they say.... it's easy! it is 1 to1 scale so just measure whatever you want to see it's size.

I use AutoCad 2006/SolidWorks 2004.

Your plans look great. Which trinity engine are you going to use? What servos are you going to use?

this build looks verry cool,...i have a few traxxas 2.5 motors lying arround, think i could use one for a mock up to follow this build till i get a .09.or make a template from a .09 block?oh,..by the way those plans look cool as H E DOUBLEHOCKEYSTIX!

I really like this deltacad program, this boat is bigger than mine. The radio wall might be to close to the rear sponson boom? ughhhhhh this boat is alot bigger than mine is gonna be, this is 2 inches longer 3/4 wider and a 1/2 higher, the rear sponson on this baby rigger are huge. Why did you make the angle on the left sponson 3, on the firefighter websight the angle for the 12 rigger is 1.5? Thanks for posting this I really will look at this and maybe change what I have started, this would make things easier.
