RE: 1/8th Scale Hydro Build
Okay fast1, what you will need is the following:
1 12"X24"X1/4" aircraft grade plywood
3 12"X48"X1/8" aircraft grade plywood
5 or 6 12"X48"X1/16" aircraft grade plywood
12 1/4"X48" square spruce stick stock
1 cowling
1 tail set
1 turbine pipe
The 1/4" and 1/8" plywoods need to be the 5 ply type, not home center or aircraft lite ply. You will see people talk about luan and door skin as building material. I would recommend staying away from these.
As for the jig, as soon as I get my next roll of film developed, I will be going into building one.

Fast1,
Just for your info, the jig dimentions for each boat are drawn on the Newton plans. You'll want to use core stock (particle board) or similar material that won't warp. I've always kept my jigs aroung so to build another if needed.
One 3/4" x 10" x 8' plank should be plenty, first glue the structure then back it up with drywall screws
Always use a jig, the cure for a crooked boat is painfull. They aren't fun to drive either.

misshydro, i can tell you from owning several of Mr Newtons plans including the winston lobster that there are details of the boats on the paint sheet that aren't on the built sheets and I'm not just talking about the paint scheme.

Okay, now you're making sense. As for which is easier to build between the Bud T-4 and the Lobster, I wouldn't do either as a first build. The Lobster is basically an outrigger hull with ram wings instead of booms, meaning you have to set it up like a rigger. Not something for the inexperienced builder, especially when dealing with wood. The T-4 may not be like a rigger, but there is very little information on it since it only was qualified once in that configuration. I will say it again, stick with the pre-1995 boats, exspecially if you aren't familiar with working with wood.

This is a little different than a high school shop project. You also don't have a couple of classmates helping. Do you have access to band and scroll saws or Dremel tools? If not, don't even spend any money on wood.

RE: 1/8th Scale Hydro Build
And now it's my turn for a question. I just recently picked up an almost new CMB .67 for a really great price. I'm toying with the idea of building a scale. I don't like the look of wings. I also don't want a difficult paint scheme. I'm leaning toward something from the 70s. Someone suggested that plan #108 would be a good choice performance wise. Does this sound like a good choice? Any other plans that handle well and are fast?

That's not old, as the oldest boat is the cabover 1970 Pride Of Pay'N Pak. If you want old, look at the My Sweetie from 1948 and My Darling from 1950. These two didn't even have sponsons. Or maybe the 1950 Slo-Mo-Shun IV and 1951 Slo-Mo-Shun V, both of which I have worked on. Those are old boats.
Okay Chuck, you didn't say whether you would prefer a picklefork or roundnose, so I went through and found all the plans(I hope) that are pickleforks and wingless. It's up to you as to which boat from these plans you want:
108, 109, 122, 125 128, 129, 133, 138 and 151. The reason I went with 108 is the variety of boats that can be built, both with and without a wing from the one planset. Just remember, some boats require a dummy engine to cover the CMB you'll be using for power
