I use the hook and loop stuff all the time. However, I use Gorilla Glue to hold the stuff to the tank and the hull. One fellow in our club made a wood tray, glued that to the tank platform, and used small brass cup hooks and rubber bands to hold the tank in place.

I normallynuse silicon as it also cushions the tank from vibration, preventing foaming of fuel. First roughen the two surfaces up with sandpaper.

I used what came with the boat and it worked fine for an entire season. Remember, the cowl also holds the tank in place.

If you use Velcro, you can CA it to the hull and use a Shoe-Goo type of silicone on the tank to hold the Velcro on it. This works well if you use a softer tank like the Sullivan's that flex more.
