Default JD Wof 28 thoughts/comments?

I am going to be buying a 3.5cc tunnel to race at my local club. I dont need anything amazing, just a used boat with a decent engine on there that will finish races! Someone offered me a JD Wof 28 with a K&B SS gold carb engine and it looks to be in great shape! Until now, all that has been in my price range are used Top Speed 2's which is fine with me but is the JD a better boat? If I remember correctly it is a more competition based boat than the TS2 and that would be great, but I am such a noob with tunnels that I have no idea! Anyone have any comments on this one??

The JD WOF 28 is a good choice for stock 3.5 class.

what do you guys think of the outboard K&B SS with the gold carb? It has that barrel exhaust and seems to be air cooled (that could be fixed with a simple head change if necessary) I know the K&B's are dated engines and not as strong as a rossi/os/mac engine but would an SS get a WOF 28 past the 40mph mark?

With 60% fuel, a good prop(X440, M440) the WOF 28 should run 43/44 mph. At least mine would. The K&B Gold Head SS should work fine w/o converting it to a water cooled engine.

I bought an SS off JD last year. On a Dumas Hot Shot Sprint, Sholund preped X1440 B/C, boat was radar'd at 46.3. This was with Wildcat 65% fuel.

Wow, that is movin! Anything close to or above 40 will be fine for me! I have to go out to my pond where no one runs and toss out some bouys and get some practice in so I know what to expect. The local club has some races coming up in the next couple weeks and I dont want to look like a fool out there so I am going to go and spectate a couple time while I practice so I have a better idea of all that is involved with racing.

The m440 or x440 will be good choices also. Just make sure you get one of the x1440 B/C in due time. They sure do pick up in the speed department...

One more question... I have always ran water cooled engines thus far, would 60% nitro be too much for an air cooled engine?

The motor has been run on 60% as long as I have had it. Most OB's need the water restricted anyway cause the lower unit acts like a giant heat sink that is always water cooled.

Hey there Adam! Thanks for confirming that for me! I am really pumped to get it! Just have to go to the Auto store and get some airbrush colors for it so it will look as nice on my boat stand as it will in last place (not the boats fault, it will probably be my driving hehe!)
