blackjack 26 stupid questions
Asked A few questions somewhere else, didn't get any answers.Noob to boats. Mabey you guys can help.
Got a bj26, came with 3 blade brass prop. Wouldent run, loaded up. Figured it was too rich as I was braking it in. Well, ran a few tanks and started to lean it out. Still ran like a@#. I put the stock prop on and it runs sweet. So, what is the pitch on the stock 2 blade, should I go to 3 blade(whats the gain?) and how do I figure the pitch I need? The only thig I could see on the 3 blade is 43513woctur
Also, does anyone wax their hulls, just did mine with the wax for my fullscale, man it really smooths out the surface.
thanks

actually, waxing has a negative effect on speed....surprisingly, if you sand the running area, it will gain in speed....

RE: blackjack 26 stupid questions
nope...i dont know exactly why, but it has something to do with trapping bubbles or air and actually airating the underside of the hull, wich means less water resistance....

Saleens is correct.
You can always blue print the bottom of the boat (sand paper) just enough to remove the clear coat and orange peel, it will ensure that the bottom is flat with no imperfection than you can finish it with 600 and 800, it will be smoother than the wax and will make a difference.
The prop number looks like an M435/3, are you running the .15?
I would try a Y535 from Octura or a 36x55 from Aquacraft.
Dan.

RE: blackjack 26 stupid questions
here is a post made by Ron Olson over on the "super tune your supervee" thread....it will help you understand better how sading the running surface will help the boat go faster..
I'll take a shot at answering this but please correct me if I'm wrong or close.
Roughing up the bottom with Scotch-brite or sandpaper helps to remove stiction (it's a real word if you haven't heard it, a combo of sticking and friction) and helps to create a tiny cushion of air bubbles under the hull. The sailboaters figured this out years ago trying to get more speed out of them. Waxing a hull adds to the problem, the opposite of what you'd think that it would as substances like carnauba will roll up into tiny balls from the friction of the water.
This will work on any boat, not just the Aquacrafts.
Some will go to other ways of doing basically the same thing such as mixing a graphite powder in with some epoxy and applying it to the hull's bottom then sanding it lengthwise with 400 grit sandpaper.
I've got someone doing some testing for me on another product, I'm waiting to see what his results are.
Mike, if you're interested in trying it, I'll send you some. It's a Teflon tape that I get the roll ends from at work.

RE: blackjack 26 stupid questions
If you go from a 2 blade to a 3 blade, the three blade should be slightly smaller and/or less pitch. This is because the 3 blade naturally produces more power due to the extra 3rd fin. Naturally, more surface area means more drag so you lose power. I'm not too sure about how much smaller/less pitch you should use. Are there hobby shops that let you test props before you buy? For real boats, most shops let you test the props before you buy.
If you can test them first, obviously find one that give you the most speed and acceleration. This should mean that drag is at its minimum while you get the most thrust from the 3 blades.
