Default My Mate And I Are Having A Race And I Want To Win Please Help

Hi we are having a bit of a compertition but I am at a major disavantage and need some help please

My mate knows a lot about boats and I dont! But here are the rules of our compertition.

Boat must be between 750mm and 900mm and be a single hull
Engine is set we have the same engine a VX18 .18 nitro engine
Radio Gear is limited to 2 channels
Spend limit is $600NZD (I have Already Spent $109.01NZD) This does not include Engine or radio gear as we both already have that.

I have purchased 2 hulls now (pictures below) boat 1 is 800mm by 225mm and boat 2 is 765mm by 275mm.

What i would like some help with which of my hulls i should run, and what things i can do to get max performance out of my boat also any usefull information you can give me about tactics.

We will be raceing in the open sea off my mates boat so being able to handle a wave or two is a must

first of all with the size of the hull around 31-35 inches and a .18 motor it's kinda under power, the hull size can handle .21 to .45 engine.

assuming the red and white colored hull is a surface drive it might be better than the unpainted hull due to it is submerged drive.

if u gonna stick to the .18 motor, octura x437 and x438 is a choice, just my two cents.

A surface drive means the prop will come out of the transom/back of the boat. The new SV27 nitro I think is 27 inches or 685.8mm with a .18 engine for a reference size. But if you are going to use this boat in the ocean it probably would be better to be a little bigger, I would though go with the red hull also. Also very important when you are done for the day with this boat and if it is running in salt water clean it with fresh water throughly, make sure you get all salt water off everything. When you decide what you are going to go with please ask more questions and post pics showing different angles of your boat.

i agree with the above. Not sure if the prop shaft on the red and white boat exits the transom (back) of the boat, but if it does, that would be the boat of choice. so if you're going to use a boat with the prop existing the back and not under the boat like your wooden boat in the picture, I'd actually use a larger prop than the 437 or 438. I have an sv 27 and I used a grimracer 40x53 / 3 blade and picked up about 3 mph (~5kmh). If you'll use the wooden boat, I'd use either a x435. At least that's where I would start. Good luck

Hi Guys Here are some pictures of the red and white boat this is the boat i have chosen as it is deeper and if i am raceing it off shore that seams better.

The boat as it stands can be easily changed to a surface drive it already has the hole in place. there apears to be a sharf where i can put a keel of some sort.

some questions i have? why a surface drive apposed to a submerged drive. what would the best ruder to use I have included photo's of my ruders, also would haveing a keel help me in any way.

If you would like any infomation mesurements just let me know

cheers guys your help is appreciated

Ok , Based on these pictures you are gonna have some work to do to get this boat ready also. Yes this boat was a sub surface boat that was started to be converted to a surface drive, stuffing tube did go thru the boat and there is a place where the rudder mounted in the rear on the boat. Honestly I am not sure of this but based on the mounts you have for the engine it almost looks like this had a Gas engine mounted in it? Ya know it is pretty cheap you might wanna try the hardware thats on the SV27 nitro you can get thru tower and if not you can get an idea of what you would be looking for.Ok on the inside of the boat you will need to put in 2 stringers , they are for making the boat more rigid and for mounting you engine too. If you look at Ron Olson's 12 mono thread he shows how he put in stringers , and if you need more info on that Ron will probably chime in and make some suggestions (he is good with building monos)( I concentrate more on riggers). Ya know the SV27 engine mount might even work for you (ohhh the nitro mount lol) I am thinking cheaper rather than more expensive. Hope this helps a little

Paul

thanks for the pic's
