Default How to start racing??

Hey guys,

I was wandering how you guys, at these boat races, get all the boats started and begin the racing??

My buds and I, usually get them in the water and get as close to each other as we can and then go all out for a few laps(4). It's hard to get even with each other starting like this and usually there's someone already in the front position.

How do you guys do-it??

Thanks,
Phil

When were just racing for fun we pick a point, could be the recovery boat or whatever you want as the start line. We try to stay as close to each other as possible and when you get to the start line we gun it.

or you can use the electronic countdown clock (it comes on a CD), same as for the real RC races. it counts down from 2 min or 2 min 40 sec while your in the pits getting your boat ready, ALL boats have to be in the water before the CD hits the 30 second mark and says "NO MORE LAUNCH"

if you were in the water by that time then your good to go, at this point the countdown continues (steady), NO Body is waiting for NO body, what you want to do now is time yourself correctly, when the clock hits Zero an electronic horn will sound, at that point you want to be just before the start line, if you were ahead (past the start line) when the horn blew you are now one lap behind. You keep racing until the CD announces the end of the race hoping you don't run out of fuel before or crash or stall.

Dan.

As Dan said, you have to pass the start/finish line AFTER the horn blows to start the race. The races are 6 laps. So after the start, the first person to finish 6 laps wins. After a person finishes 6 laps, they are supposed to move to the outside, slow down, and keep running until the race is over (so they are not in the way of those still racing). No cutting the course, turning around, etc, to come in.

Of course if you are just running for fun, with friends, you can start, finish, and run as many or as few laps as you want to...heh.

If you can get a copy of the start countdown, you could run it on speakers through an MP3 player, CD player (boom box), etc... With the countdown, you get a start horn...which is when you can start your boat. You have 2 minutes to get your boat in the water. After the 2 minutes, a voice says "no launch". At that time, it is up to the pit boss (in a real race) whether you can still launch or not. Personal experience, is if you got it started, they will let you launch. After the "no launch", there is 30 seconds of mill time...in which everyone is jockying for position to try to line up as Dan said (be just prior to the start/finish line so you cross it right AFTER the start horn sounds). This is IMPBA...no idea how the NAMBA compares. I have also seen a visable start clock used during a race...this was down in the Dallas area.
