Default New Project Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got this boat in a trade and would like to restore it to like new condition. The problem is that I don't know who makes the hull. I also need help identifying the motor as well, I know its a K&B 7.5 but other than that I know nothing about it. Any help would be great. I did get to fire it up though, the motor still feels tight but runs funny. When I give it trottle it revs slowly(telling me its rich), but when I let off it revs like crazy for 3 or 4 seconds then finaly settles to an idle. I've had many nitros but never an outboard, but I would asume it should'nt do that rite?? My first thought was an air leak, so I started it again and soaked the mains, intake manifold and head area with WD40 and it did'nt phase it. So I'm left stumpt[]. Here are some pics. Please help. Thanks Sam

lets see if we can help,

since you know its a K&B 7.5 thats a pretty good start, although the pictures are big we can't see the motor in detail, not clear enough. So I can't tell you which model number the motor is.

at first look I was gonna say a TS2 but it looks bigger and it doesn't take a 7.5 but a 3.5, my next guess would be, I think its an HTB 340 if its 34" long.

Now for the running part, it should run rich on the bench and the reason it revs up when you let go can be because it has cleared out, or the LSN is not set correctly.

For a bit of help you can go on this site:

http://www.mecoa.com/kb/index.htm

Also the best way to find out is start your motor, keep bleeping the throttle so it doesn't load up, launch the boat and take her for a spin, that will be the best and easiest way for you to know exactly how the engine is running.

I just got done cleaning the carb. I tore it all down cleaned everything and reasembled it. I6t seems to operate more smoothly for sure. Dan, I think you my be on to somthing with the LSN, as I was tearing it apart I decide to check the needles. LSN was 8-9 turns out, HSN was 6.5 turns out. I looked at your site and from what they say is a good starting point the LSN was way rich. But even with my cars, if it was running terribly rich it still would'nt run irraticly like this one does. I'am fresh out of fuel so I can't try another bench test but as soon as I get some I'll be like a mad scientist.

well as you can see I have done a pic upload test and its working fine for me.

What can I say, I'm a computer Guru.

Steiner,

check all your fuel line, pressure test each and everyone of them, check your pressure line, check the pickup line inside the tank and do a pressure test.

it doesn't take much, a pin hole can cause all sorts of problems, a small crack in the pickup tube in the tank will also cause problems.

another thing that may help with the pics, instead of using the reply button in the post, use the "post reply" button at the bottom left corner of the thread, it should work better.

There is [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6381159/tm.htm]another post[/link] that also has large pics when first viewed...so I think it is the board...not the user.

The green boat appears to be a Dumas 7.5 Hot Shot Sprint.. Whether it is ABS or the wood version, you'll know. Just by looking at it, I'd guess it's the wood kit...

I also have trouble uploading pics. Some threads it works others it does not.

ON my K&B 7.5 my HSN is about 6 turns out and the LSN has a 2mm gap from the spray bar to the needle when at WOT. We have a 7.5 outboard thread if you are interested.

The 7.5 Hot Shot sprint might be it. It's wood, and is 32 inches long 14 inches wide. I thought of using the 7.5 thread but I did'nt want to clog it up with all my rookie tunnel questions. I just bought new 30% fuel, fuel line and new stopers and brass tubing for my tanks. Hopfully thats the ticket, and plain old throwing it in and running it to see what she does. Can anyong tell me what kind of speeds to look for out of this thing? Just for reference. Thanks All Sam

A stock 7.5 on low nitro should run just under 40mph or better.
