In need of help with my dumas scarab38 with a ops .90 engine. I know nothing about rc boats. I painted it and put it together .....thats about all I know. Now how to make it run. Is 15%nitro enough? Needle valve? very high compression (had to get a heavy duty starter)
knowone at any hobby stores can help me. they are into the car thing. Thank you much, Dan

Ok, you have a needle valve there and its a remote needle valve which is made to have a servo hooked to it for fine tuning while running, but it doesnt have to be hooked up to a servo...I would start at about 3 turns out, to be safe...so turn it in till it stops(NOT TIGHT!) just till it snugs lightly...then back it out 3 turns...so try to get it to start...maybe have someone else work the throttle to keep it running till you can put down the starter and set the idle with the throttle trim on the radio, also set up your radio so that pulling the trigger(or stick if your using a stick radio) will close the carb which will kill your engine...also get a failsafe(duratrax micro failsafe is 18 bucks at towerhobbies)...this will kill the engine if your radio loses signal...now 3 turns will probablly be on the rich side so you may have to lean it out a little(by turning the needle in 1/8th turn at a time) always small adjustments...but if you can get it in the water running at 3 turns then see if it runs ok or wants to load up and bog down...if it loads up then its too rich...once you get the motor close you can dial in the running hardware(prop depth and stuff)...we'll get you running yet...theres tons of people in here that are far beyond my knowledge when it comes to setting up boats, I am very good with the engines though and am picking up more boat info everyday

What % nitro should I be using
15%nitro is fine, but check the oil % content, mostly 18% of oil, actually the lower the nitro% the easier to tune...goodluck on maiden voyage.
