Fenton boater here. I have a couple k&b 7.5 tunnels. I drop them onto Unger lake a couple times a year. 20 years ago there was a course set up. Now it is overgrown. At least they do not hassle boaters. Maybe we could all grab some chainsaws and clear some shore.

Dave,

Sorry, I have been on a hiatis and have not been working on the Unger Lake option for a while. Your suggestion that we get together with some chain saws and clear Ugger Lake shore line ourselves is tempting. I would not mind doing the work but this is a StLouis County property and I am sure it would be illegal in some fashion to do so.

I had previously tracked down the person responsible for the Unger Lake property and suggest that anyone interested start individually calling the StLouis County Parks Maintenance guy that I identified previously in my thread. The more voices he hears from on this the more likely he will respond with action and clear an area. Since you knew Unger Lake when it was set up for RC Boating you would be an ideal person to provide suggestions to the Parks guy as to what actually needs to be done to Unger Lake to again make it RC Boat friendly. I am a true newbe. My first RC boat , a Thunder Cat 31, is still in the early construction stage. I have yet to wet a hull for the first time so no knowledge here on what would be best for Unger Lake. Unger Lake is the ONLY StLouis County Parks lake where RC Boat operation is allowed.

A call from you or any others focusing on the needed improvements to Unger Lake for RC boat use would help I am sure:

I am interested in what Unger Lake looked like 20 years ago that you mentioned with a course set up.

I talked to Kent Theiling again today about Unger Lake. He remembered our previous conversations about improvements to Unger Lake that would be needed to make it usable for RC boating. He asked what would be needed and if there were any other places RC boats can be run. I advised that there are none in the StLouis County area that are legal other than Unger Lake. Rivers are legal but have the problem of the current carryiing away a disabled boat. I noted that the StLouis Thunder Boaters RC boaters club uses a park in Illinois. I described what was needed is a cleared shoreline on one side the length of the lake to allow retreval of disabled boats by fishing line and reel and an access path to this cleared shoreline, optimally from the existing parking lot. Kent indicated that would likely be best accomplished with a Bobcat bulldozer.

Unger Lake has been under water on and off much of the spring. Kent advised that is normal for this lake do to its close proximity to the Meramec river. Unger Lake began life as a pit created by sand harvesting. They have completed repair to the access road which was washed out this spring and removal of a large amount of silt deposited during the flooding. Now they are waiting for it to dry out so that they can get equipment in to mow.

Kent indicated he is willing to consider doing the improvements within his available resources. There has also been a request to adapt the park area for frizbe golf. Kent noted that the frizbe golf people were asked and would not mind the presence of RC boat activity on Unger Lake. So Unger Lake may still become a usable RC boat lake at some point in time. TBC.

Admin please close this thread since a similar thread exists and so we do not have to double post to keep all informed:

I provided Kent Theiling with links to these three threads in an Email today so he can see the details of the activity. Please hold off removing any of these threads for the time being for that reason.

I did not asking for any thread to be removed.

This thread should be locked as it not serving its purpose, see the original OP's 1st and last post here in rcuniverse last year. He is long gone. And if not it is better to concentrate all local activity in one thread instead of being scattered.

I know you want the best but we all need to stop double posting as it is confusing and completely unnecessary. Hence let's lock the thread.

I am also not sure if it is a good idea to advertise our discussions outside of the group of people involved with the hobby.

I did not understand what locked out ment and thought it could mean remove which would be counter productive. Locking out for the reason you cite is fine with me as long as the thread history remains for a while.

I am unclear about your concerns relative to advising the person in charge of Unger Lake where to observe the interest in improving the lake so that it can be used for RC boating. Without his action Unger Lake will remain unusable for this purpose and again Unger Lake is the only StLouis County controled lake where RC Boating is allowed.
