RE: AMPS hulls & outboards pics & tips international hobbies
My brother check both gears and One is a 40 and the other one is 56. He has some stainlless that he can get to 47 and some other that can get to 60. The higher the number the more brittle they will be. He thinks they will be close to 20 bucks each. So chime in and tell me how hard you want them.
I will need some feed back on how hard everyone wants them. Sometime next week I should know exactly how much they will be.

The stock gears were made out of 10-18 or 11-17 low grade steel then harden. The ones that are going to be made are going to be made out of 17-4 stainless steel and harden to 45 to 47. They should be better than the stockers. I'm still waiting on the quote, should be this week.

I wish I would have keep all the ones I had. I'd have a fleet by now. I talk to my brother last night and the engineer at his shop is trying to figure out some kind of gear that would be next to impossible to break. So I guess we will wait and see if he can come up with something. My brother told him that he would like to have it done by this friday. Bidding on the Amps on Flea Bay? I have been but I keep getting outbid. Hope someone here gets it. I'll take a good pic of the stand soon. Heres my latest money pit.

Update, the shop is waitng for a price on a cutting tool for the gear. They don't have anything to use so they have to get one. I have a line on one of my old boat and motor. Does anyone want it. I did run the motor and it is or was in good shape. I know the guy never ran it.The boat I never tried.

Quote from Rush Gears Inc. 1 is 1606.00 ouch 100 is 64.71 each and 1000 is 17.75 each. Now who has need for alot of gears.
I keep trying to find them cheaper.

5 dollars per gallon that is so preposterous. i quit buying boat parts yesterday and bought all the parts to restore the brakes on my little t model. its a real 1925 ford body hood and radiator shell and a custom made pick up bed. hidden inside the truck bed is a V/W STROKER MOTOR with 2432 cc and dual delorto carburators. it will get fantastic gas mileage. ive been building on it for about 2 years. its almost ready to fly. bill

RE: AMPS hulls & outboards pics & tips international hobbies
Has anyone looked into pre-manufactured gears? More than likely they still exist out there somewhere. It is hard to believe AMPS had their own gears cut to their own spec, due to the cost of cutting special gears as you can see. Usually when something is designed, the designer will pick up a catalog first and use as much pre-manufactured parts as possible, and gears usually fit that catagory. Boston Gear is probably the most common manufacture.

My brother has sent the gears to a couple of gear shops that they do business with and none of them know who made them.I did get a gear from boston gear but they were made out of very poor steel that it did not pay to use them. The quote he got was not from his shop just one of there suppliers. My brother still thinks he can get his shop to make a 100 piece order for about 20 apiece. I did look into mhz alittle bit. to me they look like there built in germany and inported to the US.I am in Deadwood SD right now on vaction so when I get home I'll do an update.
