Hey
I was reading in another thread that homeland security is going to ban nitro fuel with a nitro content of 50% and over. Heres the Quote from the Great Planes guy, that I saw in a thread about a nitro crisis.
"Great Planes has been assured by our factory that we have enough nitro
to
continue supplying all percentages of fuel, even those above 20%.
However, we
have been informed by Homeland Security that nitro percentages 50% and over
can
no longer be produced. Current supplies can be bottled and sold but no
more
produced. There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that the FBI is
closing down
nitro methane plants because of Homeland Security issues."
I see on tower that the O'donnell 60 is in limited quantities...

That rumor has been going around since last spring that I know of.
The truth is that because of the Olympics in Beijing, they shut down the nitro plants to help reduce air pollution. Some manufacturers may be cutting back on the high nitro fuels to help stretch it until supplies get back to where they were.
If you think about it, it's utterly rediculous as drag racers are running (I think) now 90% and that is only for safety reasons.
Right now I'm sitting on 2 gallons of 65%, I should have gotten more when I had the chance.

what is outrageous is the price of Traxxas Top Fuel, I saw 165 on tower for 4 gallons. Ha I live here and that closing all of these things down hasn't done a thing for the pollution, I'm looking outside at a BEAUTIFUL grey sky, at least in DETROIT we got a blue sky

Not today as it's overcast and raining! That's OK as we really haven't had a lot anyway since the first part of July when we got hit hard.
That 65% that I was telling you about? $30.00 a gallon.
I was at one of my LHS' a few days ago and they had plenty of car and heli fuel but they don't generally handle boat fuel.

Just wondering but if you run nitro fuel 50% or more do you have to run different plugs? I've been using O'Donell 30% and my next gallon I plan on buying a higher nitro %.

I'm currently using O'Donnell #8 when I was using 30%. I just bought a gallon of 45% and I'm still using those same plugs, what would be a correct a plug to use? Would MCCoy 9's work better?

are your OS #8 still working good with the new fuel?
are you burning the plugs?
if yes to the first and no the second, don't worry about it.
if not, than McCoy 9 will be ok.

I read tech info if your running higher then30+ you need to run a cold plug like the MC#9.. That what I have too get. I think it was in my CMB before it went out on me. Lasted on me for 8 runs/8 times I'd ran my boat.

I'm not burning through my plugs and my boat is running fine. I have one #8 plug left and I want to buy some more I usually buy them 4 or 5 at a time. My boat seems to be running faster don't know if its me or not. I think I need to sharpen my props before getting a good gps reading on it.
