Default replacement engine for tc31

Does anybody have an idea what would be a good replacement motor for the stock engine in the tc31?

Thanks, did you have to change your flex shaft for the .46 to work? What else did you have to upgrade?

same flexshaft, mod on motormount, use aquacraft v24rudder set it inline instead of offset, took off the radio box use nothing, change fuel tank n' reposition in the rear.

wave waker.46 better then a .21??A CMB.21 would out power that.46 O.S!! Even a .21 Nova motor would out power the .46.. The O.S .2.5hp at 28.000 and top out at 28.000. My CMB.21RS Redhead puts out 2.8 tops ends at 36.000. Nova make a P5.21 that puts out simmlier power at the same cost of that.46 Even the O.S .21 turbo make 2.5 hp and top out at 40.000 same cost of the .46.

cmb [sm=tongue_smile.gif]..i already launched my boat and brought it back and ur cmb still in the starting table won't start so panicky,os wins...

well, consider the torque and not all rpm,,remember gas engine rpm mostly from 9000 to 12000 but how come they're fast ? just because it uses big prop and higher pitch, with this in every prop revolution it takes farther distance...likewise with .46 compare to .21, .46 can accomodate bigger prop with higher pitch...presently i'm using prather 245 with os .46, i don't think so .21 can turn this prop.

I dont care!![:'(] It was a freebe motor!!! you cant beat a free CMB.21RS Redhead!![:'(] If you love O.S you shouldve ran that .21 VZ-M Turbo. That has more power then that.46. Gas boat are fast?? Think not!! a nitro boat would beat a gas boat for speeds!!

Hay!! that what I was trying to say!![:@] Nitro scale boats are faster then gas scale boats!!!! even boats with a .67-1.01 nitro would out run a gas boat. For one thing nitro motors are small and light weight then gas motor that are big bulky and heavyer weight=slower speeds.[:'(] Hay wave waker>>>Saw what Ron said about the O.S.46,,(His quote)The OS .46 has a problem with the case cracking across the bottom.

That's ok, a well setup electric boat would leave both in the mist.

When ever I see hp figures on nitro even gas engines, it's all extremely relative.
I've seen a 2200 watt output (2800w input) electric setup, which is just under 3hp, push a 44" mono at about 60mph. If a CMB.21 RS Red Head at 2.8hp could push a 15 lb boat at 60mph, I'd be surprised.

These hp figures are far from reality making it impossible to justify engine cost vs engine performance when comparing mulitple engines. There is just NO consistancy from manufacture to manufacture. Nitro Boaters must realize this when making a decision on an engine purchase.

False/Deceptive Advertising??!!! You mean I cant turn 40000 RPM'S???!! Dang... there goes my aspirations!

Seriously tho, it WOULD be great IF there was an independant testing agency that tested all motors stock each yer at a fixed RPM (say 25000) and certified their findings. Then buyers could make intelligent decisions - but the mfrs wouldnt want THAT - then if their higher priced motor turns out to be a dog, their sales would suck - and they actually have to imptove their designs (which we'd love, and they'd hate).

Ok were taking thing out of contex!! I'd never said anything about a CMB.21 running a 40+ boat, but there is one that has been done. The guy was stupied to put it into a 40" keyoso lambo cat!![:@] waste of a good motor in a 40 inc junk of a boat!![:@] A TC31 isnt that big its only a 31"lenght hull,So a CMB.21 or NOVA.21 would make that pupy fly!! They run the CMB.21&NOVA.21 in the sport20 class. most of them are 34-36"long. If you run a .21 you can race it in a sport20 class. heres two videos of that cat,you see in one video the guy revs the living heck out of it!![link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czj8vt7XEis&feature=related[/link] [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBbPl5eUwq8&feature=related[/link] This is a different guy who put a CMB.21RS Redhead in a keyoso lambo cat too.[link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofaeUnsLR68[/link] The CMB's and Nova has been around for a long time and they have been racin proven. Oh Ryan water&electric dont mixs very well too! Seen videos of when a FE catches on fire too.

Sure ya can, just go electric and you can turn 40 000+RPM's. Although any more than 35 000RPM just does not allow a large enough prop for the size hull. I'm talking loaded in water RPM. All the nitro boat engines I have ran, never made it over more than 28 000RPM regardless of specs. I'm sure the CMB's or MAC engines may have pushed more RPM's out but I never owned them.

misshydro

I was simply saying that close to 3hp can push a 44" Mono hull around 60mph as I have seen this done. The CMB .21 you listed apparently has this kind of hp so it should do it as well.

I'll I'm trying to say and not just to you but all nitro boaters is the hp figures provided by manufactures are far from reality. One hp figure from CMB can not be compared to the hp figures O.S. provides.

This is something that drove me crazy in my nitro days and still to this day drives me crazy.

Hey there, just giving you an update....got the prop nailed down, and now have a gallon of 50% thru that mod Go .18re, and not one issue with it at all. And I can't believe it, but only on the 2nd plug just yesterday, since break in...And I have to say, for a Mod on 50 this thing takes a tune quite easily. The Go engines are solid for less coin for sure...It depends really on what you want outta the boat...bang for the buck, Go is a pretty solid choice. And I only got the basic rear exhaust, for a little more coin the pro versions look even more solid. I don't think you'll be disappointed..I would definitely consider upgrade flex cable and octura flex hex...www.offshoreelectrics for cables and other cool stuff and www.theprop-shop.com for the flex hex...the prop shop does an ExCeLLeNt job on sharpened and balanced props by the way...like I've never seen before...
Also, make sure you get a flywheel, the Go engines do NoT come with one! Call where you're ordering from the verify that, but the .18 didn't come with one.

Gotcha...the .18 didn't, which was strange...don't really know about the other displacements...always good to ask though just in case..good luck with the project, it should scream with that engine...just beef up your driveline if you haven't already because you're about to throw a whole bunch more power to it. -William
