Default Thunder Cat 31 goes 50 mph?

Hi, guys!

I want to increase the speed of my TC 31.

Is it possible to increase the speed upto 50 mph? If so, what engine & what propeller would be the best ones?

Any more modification needed for that?

I would like to hear your good advices on this.

Thank you very much for your attention.

how much money do you want to spend on a motor?? A CMB.21RS Redhead or a Nova.21 or a O.S .21VZ-M Turbo would make you boat go that fast.

An os 46 vzm would be lots of fun and for sure be into the 50mph mark with the 46 youcan run a good size prop to get that cat hull out of the water. The os may not spin quite as fast as some of the others but they run very good and don't cost 500.00.

F16 the O.S doesnt cost no 500!![X(] 273-300 depends were you get it from! The Nova P5 .21's are about 250.00. Why get a O.S.46??[&:] Ron Olson had said on a different thread the O.S.46 are cracking the motor blocks at the bottom of there cases!![:'(] You can find some used good CMB.21 for used 250.00!! Me I was give one for free! Ones you have one of these motors you dont want to use anything else!

How do you know what you are getting in any used motor, ie condition of the motor?

I myself have never seen an os case blow the bottom out but I have seen other cases fail when the engine mount was not set up right as in no clearance on the side, or crank bearing failure, but I guess some engines could slip thru quality control on a bad casting. One thing for sure is a .21 cmb is probably more powerful than th dynomite engine but still a bit small for the cat hull, remember prop size.

most guys are pretty onest about selling used motor. They will tell you about how much fuel it was run thew it too. The TC31 with rudder over hull lenght is 36" It should do over 50 MHP? The dynamite.31 is a joke to me. It doesnt put out much power. Like I said before one you use one of these motor you will never look back. Got my taste of a real.21 and love it!!

Hi, guys! Thank you for your response!

Misshydro, I cannot find out the other engines on the internet that you mentioned except the O.S .21VZ-M Turbo. This engine looks cool. It is somewhat expensive though.

My budget was around $200. Maybe I should convince my wife to get a permission to buy.

I have some questions about this engine.

Q#1. What propeller is the best one for this O.S. engine?

Q#2. Do I need a specific tuned pipe and muffler for this engine or it is OK with the stock pipe?

Q#3. Do I need 12V starter? Doesn't the regular 7.2 V stater work for this engine?

Q#4. How fast can TC 31 go with this O.S. engine?

Sorry for many questions. But I greatly appreciate your advice. Thank you!

But that O.S.21 is cheaper then the CMB.21 in the price. But the O.S is a good motor for the price!! The Nova Rossi has a P5.21 that cost about 250.00. You can run a 215 or x440 or x440/3 it would do 50+ if its set wright. Tune pipes,I'm using the MAC's 3.5 and its cut about 8 1/2 .
