First boat, K&B 7.5cc 40"
Hey everyone, some of you may have seen my post in the general section. But I may aswell post here as its probably a bit more appropriate
Im completely new to anything RC and bought my self an old boat hull last week with a motor.
Ive been prepping it for paint and tidying it up before i paint it.
Today i started to build an engine cowl for the outboard... got bored and thougth i'd try my luck at playing with fiberglass
heres the 1st half
second half is currently in the making... just waiting for the resin to cure
EDIT:
and here the cowl. not perfect, but good enought to tidy up and maybe make a mold from it... I'll see.

RE: First boat, K&B 7.5cc 40"
Hi john, yea ive always been the type to try and do things myself, i think its the way ive been brought up (thanks dad haha).
It is always nice to be able to say "i made that" instead of "i bought one of them". Maybe thats why im an Engineer.... lol

Same here Barnacle. My Dad started me building and I'm still at it. I'm also an Engineer (retired). My current project is a 1/4 scale Tiger Moth biplane painted in a color scheme I found on a plane down there near you. It's affectionatly called the Mount Cook Lily from the Riversdale, Southland area. I tried to attach a picture but the system will not support it. If you're interested you can find it on Airliners.net and search for the registration number ZK-BRC. I do enjoy my boats as well.

[ nice start on the cover . here is a good way to lock it down like the amps outboard covers . take two small rubber o'rings on each side and lock them down to the lower half . make sure you put some kind of flotation it the cover so if it come's off it dose not sink :}

I like it Barnacle. The revised concept design on the deck is more attractive to me than the initial concept. It's accent striping rather than over powering red panels. What paint are you using. I have always leaned towards epoxy paint for my boats. Primarily for durability. Auto paint give a beautiful finish but I've found that it chips easily.

John, im useing car paint. The white is 2K, the red is a metallic base colour and will be receiving a 2K clear overtop.
Once i started playing with te design i also found the lines became more attreactive than the large red panels, kind of gives it a bit of a faster look.
I got a couple runs in the white, so i'll block them out tonight, and then mask up the design... Really looking forward to seeing the final result.

Thanks SRT10. Striping on any model can be used to accentuate the length or bring out other features. On Barnacle's boat it gives the deck area an elongated streamlined look. On my jet I used it to show off the fuselage length and give it a sense of movement.
