well if its 1/4 28 than its 1/4 28 not MM if your looking for a collet than octura has a .150-1/4-28 collet, I just picked one up yesterday for mine..
What does it take to make a rudder? Takes machines to do it correctly, you can make one by hand BUT get ready to spend a ton of time doing it and you still need at least a drill press for the hinge hole even with that its going to be hard to get a true hole lined up correctly. Shoot me a PM anytime I can make you one like the one I did for mine or can make something different.

Sent back, im easy I dont buy my hardware from anyone else, everything I do is machined by me with the exception of a couple parts that go to a retired machinist friend of mine, that means I can change the parts I already have plans done for like rudder blade length width how far off the transom the bracket needs to be etc..

Here is your rudder next to mine, I went all the way through on the bracket (slots instead of ball milled) hair lighter and looks better in my opinion.

RE: .12 Rigger Kits for CHEAP!
mine NOT the one I slotted all the way through weighs in at 1.3oz the zipp I have weighs in at 1.2oz both rudders were weighed bolt on ready meaning with all nuts and bolts the one I cut for fishy2k8 will weigh a gram or so less than mine I didnt check its just a given..
`ALSO might add that mine the rudder is 3.50 long compare to 3.145 zipp measuring from the top of the bracket on both, zipp width (LE to TE) is .764 mine is .828 the zipp is .188 thick mine is .095 thick thats a given since I have no water pick-up and can be trimmed as far up as one wants to trim. mine LOOKS heavier but side by side the difference is not much at all main reason mine LOOKS so much heavier is the way its designed the bracket is straight and bolts to the side of the hull instead of an L bolting up to the back of the transom,
Not saying mine is better or worse than the zipp, just two different pieces of hardware that serve basically the same function, turning a boat..

RE: .12 Rigger Kits for CHEAP!
OK! I've got the bug and I am gathering materials and parts to build a JAE .12g from the plans they have so generously provided. I am going to try to introduce these to southeastern Arizona and see if I can get the fever to spread. There is currently no NAMBAclass to run them in but with only a couple of boats they could be club raced.
I've got a couple of questions, though, for those who have ordered kits from Zippkits:
1. What is the thickness of the blue foam for the sponsons (unassembled)?
2. What is the diameter of the black fiberglass material for the booms?
3. What is the thickness of that slick little Z-12 strut? I looks like 3/8"?
Thanks, any help will be greatly appreciated.
Ken

You will most likely spend more $$ doing it yourself than just buying the kit, and it's A Lot Less work. $59 shipped is Hard to beat, the sheet of foam is almost half of that.

Is the kit fiberglass?
I've built on one out of fiberglass which saves place and makes the hull more firm than wood or other materials.

Nope it's all wood, sponsons are wood over foam, Booms are solid fiberglass. I thought this thing would be flimsy at first, but when it's all together it's pretty solid.

I agree the kit is a heck of a deal. But since I already have almost all of the material on hand and I have more time than money, I prefer to make things myself.
Got any of those dimensions for me?

Strut is 3\8"
Booms are 1\4"
I don't have a Disasembled Sponson, but the assembled thickness of the Port Sponson is 1-9\64".

Amax, thank you for making time to get those measurements.
Joe, thanks to you, too. I think it is fantastic that you are providing a low cost, yet quality, entry level for our hobby. Very magnanimous. I'll try to pass it on.

RE: .12 Rigger Kits for CHEAP!
I will give my .02 cents......because I feel like it...
If your going to build one....buy a kit if you can. Its way more cost effective and makes your process alot easier.
We club race them here, we have about 5 running in our club races and have great success with them. Get the Jae Fever started in yoru area!
As far as the paint rounding the edges....no way. As long as they are sharp and square after you seal the wood, the primer paint and clear is not going to make any difference at all in the way it handles or rides on the water. I have built 6, and succesfully raced/ran/tuned them and have 3 more im working on....Buy the kit, get your parts, assemlbe it and dont over think it and everyone will be ok.
It is very hard to make improvements to this kit and the only improvement that I have found to be beneficial wasn't to make the boat faster or to prove how much smarter I am, it was an improvement to the sponsons for racing conditions after I noticed an area of improvement after 4 heat races. That is currently being worked on and tested by me and Yota and results with videos shoudl be posted soon.

hit up home depot they sell the pink foam (works the same as blue) a full sheet is not real cheap BUT 9x out of 10 that Ive been there to buy it there are busted sheets they will usually sell cheap OR GIVE you the broken stuff just have to ask, even if its not a full inch thick 3m77 aka spray glue it together and make it how ever thick you need, once sheeted it will not be weaker due to laminating 2 pieces together and the spray glue allows you to sand the foam with no issues..
