Did some bench testing, found some problems with the motor: first the high speed needle twists its way out at high rpms. Second when you put full throttle in the motor goes up but when you let off it will get stuck there sometimes?? Also is it bad to bench test your boat with your prop shaft connected to the motor??
Thanks Josh

Josh, I can give you some advice on your set up but please don't take some of it negatively. First the exhaust system in its current configuration will not work very well, it is way too long and the proboat style header is too constrictive. The header from a Miss Vegas or SV27 will work much better and get the pipe over to the side instead of over your radio box. You can get them from Tower hobbies as well as the flywheel. The super tigre motor is a decent motor but in its stock form it does not have the timing numbers needed to get the performance from your tuned pipe, it will work OK but it will not match the performance of other motors like the Nova Rossi etc. if you remove the starter system and add a flywheel and belt to start it with you also need to put a standard back plate on it. You will not be able to pull some of the props that others are using because the ST just doesn't have the power to do it. If you are just going to play with it and don't plan on racing you can expect mid 40's maybe 50 mph with the right prop. If you really want to go fast a Nova Rossi is the only way to go, I have ran mine for the last 3 years and won to district championships with it running in the low to mid 60's consistently. I hope some of this helps you out and if you have any other questions just ask and I am sure myself and others will be glad to try and answer them.
Jim

Here is the contact info for Glenn Quarles, he is the distributor for North America. You would want to ask for the NR .12 5 port with carb mod, you will also need a remote needle.

As for a prop contact Mark Sholund and see what he has for the latest and greatest for this combo. A good starting point is his 1440

Another thing you might want to look at is the boom tube inserts in the sponsons, they have been known to come loose from the constant pounding they take. Another thing I have done is to replace the boom tubes and make them 3 inches longer making the footprint wider and the ride more stable.

Awesome thanks.. And the boat has never been ran on water so I shouldn't have any problems with it yet. I will check out his site.
Thanks Josh

The NR .12 can be a pain in the butt to get broken in. Be patience You will NOT need any waterlines to the engine. The hotter the better. Keep CKing the head before you launch, you want it warm before you launch. Keep the retrieval boat handy ,we would go 1/8 lap then 1/4 lap and so on until she broke in. 3 hrs later. She likes to stick @ TDC on the piston/sleeve ,when starting. Ask Glenn about a finned airplane head button to replace the water-jacket head. And a small starting belt as the flywheel is small. A regular belt is too wide. Having the right belt is needed. .150 dia on the flex cable and cable coupled. Do not let the cable @ coupled spin ,Double CK making sure it's tight. If it spins free you may break a rod or worse.
Boom tubes ,yes get a few spares solid or open will work She will take a beating the hull is solid. I kept hitting buoy 6 at first. Keep your rudder trim way down ,they turn on a dime. Always have a drive line greased and a prop on before starting. Never pull the trigger all the way back ,setting on the table. Joe's props are very good out of the box. 438 -440 size. One Should always balance the prop and CK all before you get wet.

Just thought I would come on here and give Mike Walker some credit!!!  I bought a Orlic .12 carbon fiber tub last year and its a litle different then the JAE so when I was told to set it up with the footprint of the JAE I sent it to Mike!!!  I'm glad I did as his work is nice and quick!  He had to do different locations for the booms in the sponsons and other then waiting on some brass I think he had it back to me in less then 2 weeks!!!

I'm now waiting on parts from other suppliers and have calculated the weight and it should come in around 2lbs rtr!!!

Thanks Mike for your help!!!

How the heck do you post pictures???

I just got some new boom tubes and a T-shirt from Zippkits and somehow a turnfin fell into the bag. Thanks Joe! and its a great looking shirt.
And I was wondering if anyone has tried nylon bolts for the sponsons, maybe they would shear before pulling out the brass? Or maybe they are not strong enough? It would be no problem if I could just keep off the buoys

Anyone know what size brass tube for 1/8th shaft?  I was thinking of 3/16ths...,

Hm shame.....I would say go with 3/16, but I could be wrong 1/4 inch seems like you would start getting more vibration from the shaft, I believe double bends in the brass tube helps to lessen that affect if I remember right.

You are correct on the double bend in the brass tube it does help with friction and vibration
