Actually the MRP's were 27 inches long and well made. Good thick ABS plastic. I had my cowl held in place with velcro on all four corners and its held up over many years.
That Eagle is looking good! Keep it up!

Its amazing that by adding wings to the boat & modding the cowl slightly how much it changes the appearance of the boat. I always thought the stockEagle "looked" sterile, now it looks like a hydroplane.

Short, upright wings like the Unlimited Lights carried would look good too on it. I thought of going with just those on mine. I do think keeping the back straight with some tail feathers can help at times.

I'm curious, why did you attach the turbine pipe to the cowl? Seems to me that leaving it a separate unit would have made the cowl easier to take off and put on

Ok how would you bolt that tubine tube down? plus if thats there how to you get the tune pipe off the bracket then?.. By having it one piece you can get the tube pipe off the bracket and take the bracket off too... Did this like how our RTR's are done...

To each their own. Believe me, I don't do things the hard way, I do things to make my boats lighter, faster and last longer. You'll just have to wait until I build my Eagle to see what I do that's different from the way you and the RTR's manufacturers did. Part of the build won't even be the way Dumas designed it either. As I said, it's just the way I do things, so watch and learn.

Cant say there is a right or wrong way to do it BUT the tail on the back kind of makes it look like a hassle, to correct one thing said, the proboat has the turbine separate from the rest of the cowling, true it is more of a ring of fiberglass but it is still separate

That is a very clean looking build. You are obviously a talented model maker.
Have you had this boat on the water, yet? Could you share how you attached the aft end of the cowling?

Having built and raced one of these to a state championship in the mid-90's, I will share a little of my experience. I am concerned that your center of balance using the Dumas setup will be too far aft. I ended up moving the engine forward and moving the radio box to the front of the boat. I am currently building a new Eagle-based boat with modifications to lighten it, change the attack angles on the front sponsons and move the engine even farther forward.

Thanks,
Ken

You know i just noticed that too in the pics above with the picco engine. is that where dumas shows having the engine mounted in the plans?
I noticed that all my Dumas hulls have the engine just forward of the sponsons transom.

My copy of the plan is really faded and dog-eared (16 or 17 years old) but it appears that misshydro has positioned the motor according to Dumas.

That's an excellent idea, Dave. I think I'll steal that for the one I'm building. I think I'll make them from Nomex honeycomb panel to keep the weght down. I'm kind of worried about the inevitable full-speed tumble, though. Do you think they would need struts?

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,

When I thought about mine, I thought back to the 1/2A control line landing gear and how they were designed. Music wire is amazing stuff.

I would probably make my wings out of balsa with a brass tube for the music wire post in the tops of each upright and then V down to a central pivot block to the transom.

A couple of small nylon screws to a tab on the bottom of each wing to the deck, or even making a tape ledge at the bottom and using hatch tape to hold it. It just has to be strong enough to take the breeze and a bit of pounding is all, only their own weight. The lighter you make them, the less it takes to hold them down. They are very "transparent" pieces to the wind.

You really don't want anything solidly mounted unless its totally indestructable from a five foot drop at 50mph into the water at any angle. That's a lot to ask for, so a break-away is what I would try like the 1/8th scale boats. HOWEVER, I haven't studied them much past finding out there's more than a few ways to accomplish that.

It will have a chance to break away without damage if done right and you might even luck out with it staying on the music wire with the dead boat.

I'll try and make a sketch and add it. I might have already seen the idea and remembering it this way.

To Misshydro, I drew the Eagle diagram in Dragon Green for you.
