Nitro technical question

Is it possible to run a small to medium nitro setup with an almosttotally sealed hatch, can the cooling system handle the load??
Will it get enough air to breath??
The reason I ask is I would love to setup a nitro rapids boat, if it can be done
Has anyone evr tried to setup a rapid boat??
crazy I know but I got jet boat fever!

Cooling won't be the problem, that is as long as you have good water flow through the head. The problem will be starving the engine. You need to make some vents in the boat to allow air in or stay with an electric boat that doesn't need air to run. There is a company that makes a jet drive unit or two, but they're not cheap.

Are we still talking about that $80 40 inch koyosho C-1 cat or Admiral. Are we seriously considering running a nitro powered boat in that small stream that in that video you showed us on the other thread you made?

I believe so.

a nitro engine will not run under a fully sealed hull, it needs air.
maybe you should fit a snorkel on top of the hatch.

Naw, I'll run the nitro conversion in the Potomac. Heavy Seas and miles of open water 
I do think a small engine nitro would make a great rapid boat though electric is obviously better suited to the conditions.
If I had the extra cash, I might consider dropping in a couple o'jet drives. The propellers work fine and are cheap if I brush a rock, it's the shipping they ripped me off for ,) (I hope they are listening too,)
My rapids boat does not need to be the fastest boat in the world, shucks just add lots o'wata and even the Admiral is fun

You hit a prop on a rock and you'll be replacing more than just a prop. Plan on struts, flex shafts, hulls, radio gear, props and rudders.

with a stock Zenoah G260
And... I'll paint it myself so don't worry about that

You just don't get it do you? I've got almost 30 years of boat building and running experience. RJ has over 20 and we're both telling you the same thing. We're both telling you to forget the plastic hull and take the time to learn how things work and why with a RTR. A boat with a hull that's failed can be deadly. A fast boat with a dead radio can be deadly. A fast boat with an inexperienced driver can be deadly. In short, if a boat you own hits someone or something, YOU ARE LIABLE FOR THE REPAIR OR MEDICAL BILLS. There is a thread in this forum about R/C BOATING RELATED DEATHS, YOU NEED TO READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

personally. i would use carbon fiber with different mixtures of resign in different spots... i use carbon fiber for my boat repairs on my sailing skiff i use for the nationals...
you can really change the charicteristics of the carbon if you use the different types of resin...
its more $$ tho... but ALOT lighter and WAY stronger.

I'll check it out, I have seen carbon fiber sheets at what looked to be reasonable prices just need to add it all up. You know, factor in all the data to the equation(s) to imagine what's best, then try it

just lay 1 or 2 layers of medium weave all in the bottom of your boat... it should be bulletproof.... just make sure when you drill into it BE VERY VERY VERY carefull, as it doesn't have a great response to drilling.... just go very slow and be gentle, once its drilled, try and put a metal O into the drill hole, as like a brace. epoxy that in with the carbon. that will be best result.
