RE: Aeromarine cat 18
Yes Amax, I do my homework, too. There is room for improvement. I did get out the Sig resin , I have 2 screws threw the hull, into the radio box. I coated over them .I am going to pull my servos, and get that corrosion X spraying. How may times a season ? The heat shrink is NOT heated. just as a square washer.
Thanks old buddy Neil I think that liquid tape will work ,on my lines going into the servo case.

RE: Aeromarine cat 18
I like the CRC HD Corrosion Inhibitor a bit better than Corrosion X because it puts a heavier wax like coating on, I generally don't fully reapply it unless I find a lot of water in the servo or start to notice a twitch in the servo. I do give a little shot inside the servo after opening for inspection. I spray a quick shot just before putting the bottom on and set the servo bottom side down, so the CRC runs down and seals the seam and screw heads from inside.

Interesting, you may run into some trouble using that strut on anything except a JAE as it has no adjustment and what little you can adjust it with shims or slotting may not be quite enough also the flat bottom it has will act like a lifting surface, might think on that to. What was wrong with the strut it had-the hardware on the rtr mean machine is decent stuff..

RE: Aeromarine cat 18
You SEEN IT HERE first. Why, you ask TT just cuz I like to be different. The setup I had when the blow over, strut was even with the hull. Having talked to the Manufacturing of the strut ,Fred Howl . He said most of his sale are overseas. I asked are they building that many riggers? NO he said they are using the strut as a strut. in every hull
. 25.5 GRAMS stock can go down, with a drill press. I raised the strut even with the bottom of the hull. Catrigger!!!!

I gotta agree with Mike, it's made for a hydro, not a Cat. See how square it is on the front side of the strut? That's gonna plow water, that's why we use the bullet-nosed struts. Zero adjustability except for a little shimming. I know that the strut that comes with the RTR kit isn't the greatest but the boat needs one made for a Cat.

Yea I gotta agree to. If your gonna use that strut you should round the front off and up the strut arm a bit also, without a ski for it to hide behind it's gonna plow water bad. It's also a good idea to round the bottom off to prevent to much lift.

Yes of course the the leading edge's are beveled . I like it when someone say it can't be done . No one has that setup, me .After 3 call to Remy I got 2 extra rudder's NO STRUT. I know what I ordered. Take it from there. LOL When is a strut not a strut??
I want to know strut depth ??? I haven't drilled yet.

Here is something we all need to watch out for http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/28/st...emc=rss&src=ig
My first cat had issues I hope I fixed them ,by re drilling & sig & a dowel. I hope. OK no catrigger ,just hydrocat. You can get flat bar stock from e-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/Aluminum-Flat-Ba...item2e9dade7bb

Neil,
How is that stock thingy that replaced engine rails holding up for you? I noticed you had to cut chunks out of it. Just wondering if it affected stability or integrity. I have a ops .21 coming for my mean machine. I want to fiberglass in wooden rails, but I'm being lazy.

RE: Aeromarine cat 18
ondacomup76 ,I re-drilled out the old screw with 1/4" dowels & sig resin . As of now there all ok, BUT I haven't tested . A new mount should workout also. I like the Joe Solingers mount. or Zippkiits.com mount. same one Just add two hardwood beveled blocks ,with sig & fiberglass cloth or tape fiberglass. You all ready have the mount angle with the piece your taking out. I plan on my OPS .21 Zippkits also have the wide header pipe. Just a ideal ,My cover needs more opening. The engine didn't like the small hole. I can start my engine, with my cover on now.
I am using a 3 blade amax reworked props, NICE

Thanks Neil,
You've been a wealth of info. And you've always provided the pics for illustrations. I'll be sure to post videos and pics once she's put together and made her maiden voyage. I'm joining a club in my area, and their next run is on July 31st. Hoping to be ready by then.
Thanks,
Kerry

Neil,
Your cat looks great! Nothing wrong with giving that JAE strut a try. That's the fun with this hobby.... Are you going to race the cat in Elmira in Open Nitro Cat? How fast is that class down there?
Also, what is the length and width on the Mean Machgine 18?
Thanks,
Craig

RE: Aeromarine cat 18
Craig,Thanks for the kind words. the hull measures 29 1/2" x 10 1/2 " x 3" Yes the cat goes to Elmira. With the Z-strut ,I need to test some first, with Video . I think she will do OK I do have a carrier for the cat. double decked I left the mount long on one side to use that bell crank on the OPS slide carb. I have 2 carbs that way. I had some mods done on the engine. I am not one to hide my secret's , But I still want to win. The OPS can be a winner with some crank mods & more. I will post some close ups of what I had done as well as what I done. I have 3 OPS to play with. This Is someone's work There you go a 3 blade by AMAX

RE: Aeromarine cat 18
I am going to use my CMB .21 with the zoom carb. ,been sitting here might as well use it , my radio box . I decided to build a new box .The one that came with the hull had some scares on the top lid. ,not good for tape. I did notice a guy that used a cover that went all the way out ,even with the box. He had some foam gasket material along the top edge. held it down with rubber bans ,never leaks he said . my give it a try

RE: Aeromarine cat 18
Hey Neil,
That CMB just looks fast sitting in the cat. Let us know how it goes. I still haven't finalized an engine choice. Would you recomment going bigger than a .21?

RE: Aeromarine cat 18
No bigger than a .21 for that hull
The Zstrut is experimental, nothing wrong with Aeromarine hardware. I would be running one if my order came in right. ,got 2 rudders no strut. A nonadjustable strut is risky, yes . If I'm wrong it won't be the first. But if I am right, You seen it here first. like HR said I do like the steering/ease, fun to run ,the setup was easy. I could of used a old Marine Specialties strut,Heavy weight wise. They have a back plate with 4 treads. The new radio box is being built now .

RE: Aeromarine cat 18
Have you seen any specs on the original .18 that aeromarine sells? Ihave that enginge, but I've read that it's pretty weak. Don't want to waste my time and set my boat up with it. I didn't even think of using a car engine until the zipp kit forum. I would like to compare engine specs to some of my car engines. I even emailed aeromarine and never got a response.
Thanks,
Kerry

ondacomup76 , you're right on that engine. Alot of the guys have moved up in engine size. You can use a buggy engine in the Zippkit .12 /.18 rigger no water lines. All of the .18 Go have water heads. I have a .18Go in my promise hobby Vhull . I haven't run it yet, still sitting
The Go with mods can get you to 40ids ,they have a bigger 35 also ,Ck in with amax on the Go's and there specks. Amax has some Go's his video has some speed
