New to boats. Please Identify this hull
 

Greetings,

I have been trying to do some research on this boat. I think it is a Dumas Miss Circus Circus. But could be wrong. I have yet to find a hull that has the same tunnel cover. Maybe added later? The hull is 43" long.
So my questions are:


1. What hull is this?
2. What size engine would this hull require. (Nitro)
3. The drive-shaft tube is 1/4" diameter. Will this suffice?
4. Do I finish the hull before assembly, or after?
5. What is the hull finished with?

I have a pile of questions that need to be answered, most of which I am trying to research on this forum. Lots of great info on here.

That is definitely not a Dumas boat. The cockpit and engine cover say it's a 1/8 scale model of the 1987 Miss 7 Eleven which was driven in full size by Steve Reynolds. The boat looks to be built from Roger Newton plans just due to the design. Now, to answer the rest of your questions, I'll take them in order:
1) the engine needs to be a marine .67, smaller won't push it and larger will over power the hull and make it unstable
2) the 1/4 tube will work for a 3/16(.187) flex cable but it will be a bit tight so lubing will be mandatory
3) finishing works best before attaching the tails and rear wing as it's difficult to tape off and paint around them
4) to finish the boat, remove the rest of the old paint and then give the boat a thin coat of epoxy. After the epoxy has cured, sand it smooth without going through it, this will be your base. Prime and paint with automotive paint and clear over the top. If you want to give it a scale paint job, you will need to get a paint sheet showing the paint scheme as well as obtain a decal set. Decals are sealed under the clear coat

Do you have any info on this boat? Was it a good hull? Anything to look out for? What are its capabilities.


I will start with the epoxy and paint and move towards getting the hull finished. A couple other questions I have:

1. Why did the original builder of this boat put holes in the servo box for 3 servos?
2. Why is there an allen head bolt epoxied into the hull (right next to the drain tube in the engine bay)
3. Why is there a little hole with a 1" piece of tube on the front of the cockpit?

No real info that I can tell you about. As for what it can do, figure 60MPH+ and yes, it can blow over. As for what to look out for, that really depends on your experience level. As for the rest:
1) one for rudder, one for throttle and one for remote needle for mixture control
2) all I can think is a way to secure the starter belt, don't know otherwise
3) I'd need to see a picture to answer that one

My experience level with boats is slim to none. I'll take all the advice I can get.

When I first acquired this boat, I brought it to a local hobby shop to see if I could find out anything about it. They basically told me that this boat was old and would weigh to much to be usable. Were they just trying to sell me one of their boats? or is there any truth to this?

I've seen boats that weight 8lbs and others in excess of 20, all ran well so it's hard to say what their motivation was, The only thing I can think of as far as that hose is a cockpit drain of some sort. What you can do to see where it goes is run a soft wire through it and see where it comes out and let us know for sure

I use West System as it's made for marine use. It is spendy but it's hard to find a better product
