Anyone have the VS-1 ?

I've been thinking of getting the Aquacraft VS-1,has anyone had one or know about it?

Hydro Junkie 02-21-2017 10:49 AM

If I remember correctly, it's an electric boat, not a nitro

kennethfunk 02-21-2017 11:12 AM

Hi Hydro Junkie!good to hear from you!...I've been looking at it on tower hobbies,it has the o.s. .21 xm engine

Hydro Junkie 02-21-2017 11:19 AM

I was thinking the Superior, not the tunnel. I stand corrected
If you really want to know about that boat, contact Jerry Dunlap here in the forum. IIRC, he was involved in the development of that particular hull

kennethfunk 02-21-2017 11:56 AM

Ok thanks!..I will check him out...wanting spring to hurry and get here, almost 70 degrees today here in Georgia

Hydro Junkie 02-21-2017 12:37 PM

Damn, I'm lucky if we hit 50 here today.
Just checked, it's only 46 :(

kennethfunk 02-21-2017 01:03 PM

Oh dang!...that's kinda cold to want to be outside running an rc boat yet

Hydro Junkie 02-21-2017 01:46 PM

We start running beginning of next month so I'm hoping it warms up soon. IT'S TOO COLD TO BE STANDING ALONG THE POND'S BANK WATCHING A SCALE CRUISE BY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grimracer/Mike Zebrowski was the designer of the VS1. It was originally the Villain, a kit designed& sold by Mike when he had a company called Power Surge Products. When he went to work for Aquacraft, he sold the design to them & they marketed it as a prebuilt hull. Excellent sport boat, just be sure to check all the seams & possibly seal the entire hull "properly". They have been known to leak & rot from the inside out. Something having to do with production costs, profits & overseas build quality. They are a good hull, straight & strong - just be sure they are sealed properly.......

JD designed the Top Speed 2 and Top Speed 3 and came out first via Aquacraft.

Robin, correct me if I'm wrong. A good majority of racers wanted Aquacraft to bring out the Vision since Mike moved to them. It was after a bunch of people kept asking for this boat that Aquacraft decided to make it available as the prebuilt.

Believe the Vision was designed around the K&B SS motor. Not certain how it works with the O.S.. Back in the day, the Vision with the SS and a x1440 backcut would run in the high 40's to 50's.

The VS-1 is an OB tunnel for nitro. When Mike was building them himself before he went to work for AquaCraft, it went by another name which happened to be the same as a Traxxas boat, the Villain.
They're good running boats, very competitive. Check all of the wood glue joints to make sure the're sealed. All it takes is some CA adhesive to seal up the leaky spots.
Marc, he's in the right forum. :)

moparbarn 03-01-2017 07:21 PM

Mark, I'm sure you mean Villain not Vision......LOL! Yes, it was designed around the K&B. Grim/Mike was fairly specific about how far he liked the prop to be from the transom & recommended minimal setback. I could be wrong, but I believe he offered a mount that was just a thin plate that allowed vertical adjustment that was only about 3/16" thick. The OS lower does set the prop back a lot further than a K&B. I have never run a mount with a lot of set back or an OS on any of my Villains so I can't speak for the results.

ob nut 03-02-2017 08:50 PM

:o Vision - Villain. Maybe I need my vision checked! I can't speak from personal experience on a Villain (or Vision!) as it has never been in my collection. Just by what I've read over the years.

Is the Mavrikk Hydratork a good starter,it's $40 on eBay,I like the align starter best but it's $140

kennethfunk 03-04-2017 10:24 PM

Thanks for the info...the VS-1 looks really fun to run!

ob nut 03-05-2017 04:47 PM

I would not suggest that starter for any outboard motor. The only listing for that starter gave me the chills.. Buy one, get one free = stay away...

To start an outboard, the starter has to turn the opposite way it does for an airplane/heli/inboard boat.

I use a old 12v Sullivan starter with Speedmaster handle and a 4s 4000mah lipo for power. This starts everything including my 11cc outboard with ease.

Thanks ob nut,..yes I didn't like that buy one,get one free....I like that that you have..I will look for the speedmaster handle..and Tower Hobbies has a Sullivan starter!

kennethfunk 03-05-2017 05:28 PM

I've got the VS-1 and am impressed with it. I'm running a K&B because it's what I have but the boat runs well, probably the fastest in my fleet. I did build and then seal the whole thing with Z Poxy, standard for me on a wooden boat. I haven't raced it yet but there is a race coming up next month and I am planning to run it there. When I first test ran it though it went maybe 15 feet before it submarined, took a good but of trim change though it was balanced correctly. Believe it or not my other favorite 3.5 boat is a Hotshot Sprint, got it in 7.5 too. Both run very well and if it's windy or rough water those are what I run in a race.

Thanks 308jockey,I will be getting a VS-1 soon, and will check to make sure it's sealed good,I will check out that Z Poxy,..and I like that Hotshot Sprint too!!...I have one more easy payment to pay off the Revolt 30 next week, then getting the VS-1..: )))

308jockey 04-27-2017 07:11 PM

That sounds great. I like the HS Sprint but it's an older design and while it runs great there are some faster boats like the VS-1. Something I found out last season though when running my larger 7.5 Sprint in a race is that it isn't necessarily the fastest boat that wins, and mine was not, but a slower boat that finishes a race will beat every faster boat that crashes before it is over. The VS-1 is a very stable race boat and it is faster than my Sprint!

kennethfunk 04-27-2017 10:44 PM

That's good to know it's stable and fast!!...I really love the motor hanging out back and the way the servo turns the whole motor to steer: ))
