Reliable 11cc Nitro motor source?

Brand newbie question.

I'm trying to put together a small club of newbie retireds and retired-wannabes who want to build and run thunderboaters in friendly regattas. We like the noise, so therefore ntiro. It'd be great if we could all be running the same motors.

It appears that finding marine nitro motors is very realistic - they're harder to find than a working Allison. The size I've seen most frequently recommended for the 1/8 scale shovel noses we plan to run is 11cc/.67 cin. Mecoa/K&B appears to either still make or at least stock them, but they're "in process," at least 2-12 weeks out according to their website. Are there any other manufacturers/distributors/sources that can be a reliable supplier for us? Would 0.82 or 0.91s be safe in the hands of idiots?

Any help would be appreciated.

The 67 [ 11cc ] is the prefered engine size for 1/8 th scale hydros. you need to find out what engine supplier has what available such as CMB i know are a good strong and reliable r/c engine as opposed to the old K& B 67,s that loved to break conrods unless you fitted a better rpm brand rod. so who stocks OPS / O.S. / CMB / PICCO etc, thats what you need to find out especially for spare parts when needed.

I'd love to find exactly that out, shooter. Any leads you have for me would be much appreciated.

There’s Novarossi Marine as well. They’re fantastic engines - the fit and finish as well as the performance blows K&B out of the water. No pun intended. https://www.novarossi.us/

i got turned off by by the cmb 67 gold top marine engine some time ago as the design of the head button and water cooling was not good due to slight water leakage into the combustion chamber . this never happened with other cmb engines i owned just the gold top 67 model, hopefully the design fault was rectified and its now good. otherwise these are a very strong and reliable engine especially when left in standard mod.

Never had an issue with the green head version. You do, however, need to make sure you set the head clearance to the proper height

I'd second that comment on Nova Rossi. Put a .67 To-Be Outboard powerhead on my NX-400 last year. WOW. It's a race winner out of the box.
