Nitro hammer..needs new engine

Will this engine work in my nitro hammer?? [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKGR1&P=7]O.S. engine[/link]
Also will I have to get the O.S. flywheel for it or will the stock one work??
Another note..my nitro hammer seems to wobble while going on flat water...what could this be?? Also what upgrades should I be looking for this boat?? It is my first nitro boat but I have been into nitro rc for over 5 years now. I was looking at the surface drive..good idea??
Thanks

If your boat is a hydro, or outrigger, the "wobbling" (I assume you mean the boat bounces from side to side on the front sponsons?) is called "chime walk". There are several possible causes:
1) Could be hydrodynamic (one or more surfaces isnt in alignment with the other surfaces and causing the boat to become unstable at speed).
2) Could be aerodynamic (same thing except the wind is working on some exposed surface and is pushing the boat to become unstable).
3) Issues of weight, balance, and C.G.

The first two problems are usually not the cause (if you have bought a RTR model or it the boat has been correctly built), but if it was a kit and built (for example) without the hull being nearly symmetrical (same depths, widths, lenths etc), you will get unstable behavior.

So unless its a poorly built kit, you are looking at #3. Try measuring: 1) where the front to back balance point is; 2) where the top to bottom balance point is; and 30 the left side balance vs the right side. If you are experiencing chime walking, the goal(s) are to get the front to back balance more forward by moving/changing equipment mounting (or using weights) to keep the nose lower and flatter; try to get the center of gravity lower (may not be possible); and lastly, get the left side vs right as close as possible to splitting down the keel or center of the boat. These will help reduce your chime walk.

PS If you use weights to bring the nose down and adjust the left-right balance (if it isnt balanced), place the weights as far forward and low as possible. That way you can use the least posible weight and get the most benefit.

That engine should be just about a bolt-in. Use your existing parts as they will work fine. The only trouble that you might have is the engine lug holes and that is a big might, no big deal to take care of. The header could present a problem but I can't say for sure.
What you are probably seeing with your boat on flat water is chine-walk. Lower the prop on the shaft if you can. Going with the .18 you might find that the prop is going to be too small so figure in going to a larger one.
Converting over to a surface drive is a lot of work, you might want to save that for during your winter downtime but could be done in a couple of days otherwise.

hi, i was looking at the same engine, except for the the Bud. They claim 11% more power than the .15. Ron, do you think you will get noticable gains with the os .18 over a .15 ?...if propped right.

I don't see why not. The OS engines show more "Real World" numbers over others so you should be able to possibly see more of an improvement than over your present powerplant. If you have the flex cable version then it ought to be able to take a larger prop than the straight shaft.

ya that engine will work i know cuase i have the buggy version of it and they should be the same thing yu have to mount it on the last hole on the mounting plates though.I saw alot of difference in my engine
