ca epoxy?
 

ca is this an abreviation for a longer name. i noticed today after i was finished for the day that the wooden exhaust brace on the rear of my miss vegas is coming off of the hull that is what you call it right? how do i go about repairing it thanks Rob

1. Clean the area around the wood.
2. Apply thin CA to the wood and hold pressure on the top of the wood till the CA kicks.

That should do it.

what exactly is ca and where can i get it. do i need to get it at the lhs or can you get it at a hardware store(home depot) i'm brand new to the rc boating world. i just got my first boat a week ago its the miss vegas and i love it. i will be asking many many questions on this site

Let's see if I can type it right, it stands for Cyanoacrylic Adhesive and is not an epoxy as epoxy is a 2-part adhesive/glue/cement, the resin and the hardener.
A Hobby Shop is the best place to get it as it seems to be better than what you get at Home Depot, etc. You'll also have a better selection of fast or slow setting, thin and thick. There is also an acellerator that comes in a squirt bottle to make the CA set faster.
When Jerry said "kicks", you might see what looks like smoke coming off the CA. Watch your eyes around that stuff so kind of stay back a little while applying it.

'CA' is cyanoacrilate(sp), or super glue. It comes in several 'styles', very thin, thin, thick, and a gel form. The thinner stuff is good for wood, penitrates pretty well. To fill gaps, or where parts don't meet just exactly right, a thicker type usually works. The 'remover' is the same as finger nail polish remover, or acetone. Not a bad idea to get the remover the same time as the CA.
It isn't the safest stuff in the world but not really all that dangerous either. Some people are alergic to the fumes. The 'accelerator' (Zap?) used with CA also produces fumes that you can have an alergic reaction to. Getting CA on things below neck level isn't always pleasant, getting it on stuff above neck level is very unpleasant and dangerous. Be careful. If you just gotta scratch it, clean your hands first. And if it's something you wouldn't normally scratch in public, be very sure you clean you hands first - LOL!

Thanks for the kind words.
We were all asking questions like these when we were new to the hobby/sport also but I had the disadvantage of not having a computer and had to rely on what I read in magazines and learned from friends. The learning curve goes way up when you get on forum sites like this one.
I'd hate to go back and look at the stuff that I asked when I first joined up in here!:D

One excellent brand of CA accelerator is "Kicker" It comes in an aluminum spray bottle and provides and instant cure. I use it on all of my projects, it's much easier than waiting for the ca to set.

Where were you 15 years ago when I got CA on my eye?? :D:D:D Boy that was not fun to say the least. :) Trip to the ER room, 2 liters of saline solution, eye patch for a week got me back on track ;)

just gutted the miss vegas and used the zap a gap ca with the zip kicker. used on every mount and also had to redo the side supports that row the length of the of the hull. bow to stern it think is the correct term? seems to hold better than when it was new. thanks to all who contributed their input . wouldn't of known how to fix it if it weren't for great advice. thank you fellow boaters
