Buggy motors for Boats????
 

Guys I am looking for an inexpensive .12-.15 for my son's FF.12. I would like to get one with a pull start on it. There are all kinds of options for motors in this size range. But I have a question on the crankshafts. Some are fully threaded and some are not. What am I to look for and why? Can both styles hook up to the drive (flex) shaft?

Also what would be some good props to try out on this rig? Tom said to start with a prather 215. Do any of you now of a good sorce for finished props?

Tower Hobbies sells a .15 BB ABC Buggy Engine for $90 Stock # TOWG0115 that would probably work well. It has the threaded shaft for a flywheel and coupler.

I've run Prather 215 props out of the bag and they work fine. It doesn't take much to file the edges sharp. Tower also carries Prather props.

It said the only differance was that the .15x has 3 screw mounting and the .15 that you mensioned has 4 screw mounting. the .15x is only 70 bucks.

I found a flex shaft collet at the local hobby shop today. So that answers my question on connecting the motor up to the flex shaft.

Seems like the 15X would work fine.

Im using the dynamite .12spd for mine make sure you get the threaded crank 79.99$ ..If you ever plan on racing it stick with a .12 as the .15 does not have a class.

Jrracer, how big is your hull front to back side to side?

Ummmm Hey Jrracer are you using a 2oz tank if so what kinda run times are you getting ? It just looks like a 2oz flex tank in the pic?

I was hoping to hear some mention of the performance difference between a marine version with pipe, compared to a buggy or car engine with its own style tuned pipe. What is the power curve like between the two or doesnt it matter?

I don't know if you have one of these hobby stores close by. starting jan 12th, they are suppose to have a good sale on these, i think something like $65. I have an xtm 247 in my monster truck and compared to my picco 26, i have no problems with it. For me, I've had consistent performance once I dialed it in. It may not be the fastest, but it was pretty reliable. For the price, I think the 18 may fill your needs. It's just another option for you on top of everyone else's good suggestions.
