Bones's new ride. Firefighter .12 outrigger

Here are some pics of my Firefighter .12 outrigger that i'm having built for me over the winter. It has a brand new Traxxas .15 in it with a tuned pipe. I'm thinking i might name this outrigger "bones". This is my first outrigger and i can't wait till my builder gets it finished so i can start the engine break in procedure.

Before you get the final bolting up done with the pipe and header, it's going to need some shortening to get it to the right length.

Being a newbie i'm still on a learning curve. I cut the pipe this morning to 8.5" astern from the centre of the glow plug. I just set it up temperarly for the pics. What size fuel tank should i run for regulation size course to get enough for start up and about 10 laps?.

Whatever that you can squeeze in between the booms. I don't know what size fuel cells Walt Barney makes for Tom's kit but 4 ounces would be the minimum that you'll want.

A 4 oz tank is about all you can fit in there. I run a Sullivan 4 oz tank. 8.5 from glow plug to the widest part if the pipe (following the route of the exhaust) is still going to be long, but it is a good starting point.

Your Build looks really clean !!!! I have a Sullivan 4oz flex tank and it wont work I need to get a Sullivan 4oz slant flex tank . The reg rectangle tank with out the cap is tight between my booms, this is a FF blazzin I am working on not a FireFighter they might have a little more room between the booms.
In the one pic you have your radio box cover on it almost looks like the stuffing tube is touching the coupler?

Paul

p.s. There is a difference between the blazzin and the FireFighter.

Well i got fed up trying to find a fuel tank that would fit between the booms. I tried iv bags, control line tanks from Brodak. Nothing would fit and still give me 6ozs. So i made up this fake tank out of balsa and took it to my builder to have a fuel tank made out of tin for me. Looks to be around 6-7ozs.

Yes your right the stuffing tube is to close to the coupler. I had to machine the coupler down to fit better against the flywheel.

Mike Hallam huh? I've met him. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more enthusiastic boater. Im don't know how his sister Robin can drive her boat with him yelling and her dad by her side talking to her also. Great guy though.

Yeah being a newbie to the boat scene he has been more than helpful in getting me up and running. I keep bugging him with my endless line of typical newbie questions. His prices are also very reasonable. He looks after the pond we run at along side the 401 Hwy and Wellington road exit in London. The province is rebuilding the exit off the hwy and in the process they are erecting those tall light stands that light the whole interchange. One light stand is placed right across from the drivers stand at the pond. Should make for some good night running.

Really nice build - I have been seeing some of these boats on threads (firefighter .12) and now I would like to build one before winter is over. Where can I purchase one, what's the price on the kit?
If you don't mind, Roughly what do you have invested in to the project, less Tx & RX electronics.
Thanks, Jeff

I haven't solder in yrs and don't have the tools and skills to build a tank. I would have to buy the solder equipment to get started. So i had my builder put a tank together for me.

I got my laser cut boat from here. http://welasercut.com I probably have about $600 into her including having the boat layed up for me and buying the equipment. All because i had extra engine from Traxxas that needed a hull. I'm sure an experianced builder could put one together for about $300.
