Noobie Q, help starting boat please.

Hi,

Just put my .16 cen aqua jet together, and for the first time went to start it. have been trying all morning, but it just wont go :(
Have put fuel in the tank, primed it, charged my glow plug heater ( wich works and makes the plug element glow red when out of the engine.
Even loosened the plug so the pull start is easier, as it is a bit jerky with the plug fully tightened.

Any ideas guys please guys ? I am using Byron originals 25% nitro/11% oil. I keep on trying to get it started but it just keeps flooding, so I wait 2 minutes
and try again, but it just doesnt want to seem to catch.

Help,lol

Regards
Sam.

if your engine is flooding, adjust or check how many turns out you have on your High Speed Needle.
Start at 3 turns out.

You don't have to wait 2 minutes, just disconnect fuel line, remove plug, flip boat upside down and rotate motor to remove excess fuel.

RE: Noobie Q, help starting boat please.

The steps I take for a good start, every time.

(1) take the glow plug out and with the carb wide open, use your finger to cover the carb, pull the motor over a few times to flood it, P.S. KEEP A RAG OVER THE MOTOR so you don't get a face full of fuel,(2) now take your finger of the carb (still keeping the rag over the glow plug hole, and pull the motor over several times to get the flooded fuel all out,and lift the boat bow up to empty the tune pipe that is probably full of fuel.(3) put the glow plug back in and fire it up,( P.S.If the new motor pulls over hard losen the plug a turn & a half),at this point the boat should fire right up,tighten the plug back up if you had to losen it, quickly. Now if the boat sounds gargaly even at 1/4 to half throttle and stays running, try it , if it stalls when it hits the water it probaly to rich,if the motor runs high pitch and erratic at near close to 1/4 throttle its to lean.

This is how I do it when the a new motor give me a hard time ,,I go back to basic.
P.S. alway check to see if your tune pipe is full of fuel ,if you suspect that the motor is flooded.

The CEN Racing engines are cantankerous until you get a few tankfuls of fuel through them and the needle close. After that they'll usually fire right up on the first or second pull.
I can't remember what the owners manual recommends as a starting point, it may be 2-1/2 turns out.
I really don't recommend using the fuel that you have as the oil content is too low.

Cheers for the replies and suggestions, unfortunately it still wouldnt fire :(
Have udjsuted high speed needle to 3 turns out
When it says low end speed adjustment screw out till flush with with lever arm, do they mean lever arm that the servo rod goes on or lever as
in the barrel shaped lever (panic mode has set in now!)

Yeah I was dubious of the low oil content too, but it's all they had in the shop at the time.

Thanks for your help thus far :)

The majority of the time you shouldn't have to mess with the low speed needle but it sholud be level with the high outer sleeve by the throttle arm.

OFF she blows :D Fantastic, seems to idle ok to, have not given it any small revs yet, but atleast it started, woohoo :)
Have to wait for low tide now, to give her a small run out .

Happy man now, but im sure I will be back hahaha.

Cheers! Was brilliant, managed to get two full tank runs in before the glow starter ran out ( well I had been using it all day to try and het the engine going)
Whats the deal with throwing it in the water then? caught it a few times, but then as soon as the prop comes out of water it does that cavitating (sp?) thing !
But all in all bl**dy good fun, so I think you have yourselves another nitro boat nut on board [8D]

Best give her a bit of clean up now as I took it in the sea (naughty me,lol) She loved it though. Dont think I need a bigger engine just yet, seemed quite fast at
half throttle already.

Off on my holidays now to Amsterdam so cant break her in any further, oh I did notice it would like to stall if I pushed the throttle a bit too hard.
More adjustment needed. I guess that's the fun of it!

You spelled cavitating right and you can say bloody in here.
Try it just a little bit richer, that should take care of the problem at the top end.
Behave yourself in Amsterdam!
