I don't know the exact dates, but one of the best sources of information I've seen on mono setup was a series of articles John Finch wrote for the IMPBA Roostertail. You can find them by browsing back issues at http://www.impba.net

John has also put out a series of books that are fantastic! They're available through Air Age, your LHS or www.rcstore.com . I highly recommend Advanced R/C Model Boating to any boater no matter what level your experience is.
Chuck's lucky as he has the real thing right there.

Not exactly right here, but John is at most of the district races.

I'm still trying to determine if I want to invest 7 hours of driving to hang out at the record trials this weekend. I don't have any boats worth running at them, so it would just be to watch and learn.

Go for it Piper, Record Trials = great time for a BS session. Its fun to watch too, that is if the weather cooperates!

Like I haven't heard enough BS already this year? :D

I hear you on the fun too, it would be fun. The conflict is if I stay home I can begin work on a storage building, which will let me move lots of stuff out of the garage, which gives me more room for hobby activities, which means I can finally build the cabinets my wife has been on my case about building for 3 years now. Once the cabinets are done, I won't get as much grief for spending time building the 1/8 scale and new tunnel that are on my short list for this winter.
