Length of prop from the hull, what difference does it make?

Can anyone tell me what difference it makes when putting the prop further or closer away from the hull?

Especially on deep v boats with the prop exiting at the back of the hull (ie, not under)

What I've found out so far is that the strut needs to be higher the further out the strut or stinger is. The water is lower closer ot the transom and higher the more it is away from the boat.
We're discussing this elsewhere, I'll see if I can find you a link to the thread.

That'd be great as I am about to redo my prop/rudder combo on the boat and don't know what to do :(

I'm never really sure myself!!

Always seems to work in the end though.

Don't get too hung up, there is always time to sort things out after the first run...

Spetz, I'll give you a little hint. A lot of the Kyosho and CEN Racing parts come out of the exact same place. You could easily use some of the parts from one of CEN's boats. Take a look at the Aqua Jet, hint #2.
This is just between you and me so don't tell anyone, OK? :D

Look I will try my best but somehow I think more than just me will find out about this. How though I am not quite sure of.

But thanks for the tip I'll have a look around ;)

hello ron olson,
i,m interested in the theory earlier mentioned by you on the prop length and height
.i have a v hull that has the stinger bottom end exactly with the hulls bottom v edge and the boat is a bit crazy.
and i ,m thinking this is my problem.please can you give more info, thank you .

Try a book called "advanced rc boat modelling", the author is John Finch.

Some great advice in there on how to get the a boat going fast, and also on how to make a boat stable. If you get it you might just be able to stop your boat being a "bit crazy". If you want to.....

I got mine from Amazon, so still available, best 9 quid spent on boats yet.

Here's a thread worth looking at about struts with John Finch contributing a lot to it: http://www.intlwaters.com/index.php?showtopic=23589
I agree with Glenn, John's book is a must-have for any R/C boater. Mine is about worn out from reading it so much.
