controller?
 

Have the original controller for the mm18 and looking to upgrade controller and servos. Maybe just the controller for now. Any ideas of a decent unit. Im not looking to spend a ton just a upgrade from the Smart tech. This is my first boat and Im getting familiar with things to see if Id like to build a bigger boat and put the more quality stuff in it. I have read the previous post about the mm and have some ideas.

I don't know off-hand what receiver will take the Smartech's servos if you plan to use those. www.offshoreelectrics.com has some good buys on Hi-tec radio systems. I highly recommend the Aggressor FM for a low cost radio with a lot of good features for the beiginning boater.
Otherwise look around at other places like Tower Hobbies for the Futaba's or Horizon Hobby for the JR XR-2i.

Thanks Ron I think I may pull the trigger on a nice unit and switch it to another boat later. A kit with servos and all. But question should I get a controller and different brand servos that may be better than futaba

I don't have anything against Futaba or many other brands as I own probably at least one of every brand but have no loyalty to any in particular.
What you might want to do is look around at all of them to see what features that you like or need in a radio system. If you're like me, you don't need 10 or 30 model memory or some of the other fancy bells and whistles.
I asked Remy when the boat was still in pre-production what radio was coming with it and he wouldn't say. All he said that was all radios come from only 3 manufacturers which I kind of found hard to believe.
The prototypes were cobbled together as they were still doing a lot of testing on them. One that I saw had a CEN Racing engine in it with the exhaust from a Pro Boat Miss Bud. The one that you see in the ads and on their site was custom painted by Dean Werges. That paint job alone on that one cost more than what the whole boat goes for! The original also had engine rails, not that fiberglass lump.

Futaba makes pretty good radios. Give thought to a 2.4 mhz system, they avoid the issue of dealing with crystals. A radio such as the Futaba 3PM would be a good upgrade. For servos, the first consideration is choosing ones that fit in the existing spaces. The MM isn't too big, so you don't need to spend extra on heavy duty servos. And finally, not sure if you're aware of this or not, but there's a club that races across the bridge from you over in Queenstown. Looks like it's about a 45 minute drive from where you are. Thanks for the info and I was looking into ones with no crystals. Funny you should mention Queenstown, I will be running the boat just a couple exits over the bridge thats where my parents live right on the water.

i run the Futaba 3PM FASST and its flawless. I dont even run the antenna outside the radio box anymore. More range then you need, no glitches.
