K&B 7.5 Outboard Question

I just pulled the head off of the engine to replace a broken bolt and I noticed that the prevoius owner was not running a head shim. Is this OK ?? The engine seems to run fine. Thanks</p>

The head shim as installed from the mfg. often set the head clearence much higher than needed. If the engine is running fine, then there's no reason to stick a shim in the head. A good setting for head clearence on the 7.5 is between .012 and .015.
