Flex Cable + Nitro!

Hi Guys,

Iv recently bought a boat hull, its 32" long, and I want to buy this motor for it,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...:X:RTQ:US:1123

Anyone know how I can attach the flex cable to the crankshaft of the engine - My flex cable is 3/16 diameter.

Last thing, what sized prop should use?

Thanks for any advice!

Geez, the specs given sound more like a buggy engine than a marine one.I've never seen a marine engine with 3+ HP and still give 40,000+ RPM. Not sure I believe all that. As for the boat, can you give us more information on it? A length of 32 inches and nothing else makes it hard to answer your question. Is it a deep vee, a cat or a hydro for starters? The more info you can give us, the better answers you cna give you</p>

It would be good to ask who's selling that if they also offer a flywheel and coupler, and rear facing header for it before I would jump into trying to convert a buggy engine that only has a water jacket head. It's can be a big hassle to convert a buggy shaft to marine use. Ask if that motor is made for some boat that they also offer, and buy it's hardware setup.

What he ^^^^^^ said.  Trying to put any SG shafted engine in a boat is a real hassle. You have to cut off the unthreaded portion then find a thin flywheel and the right coupler. Putting a water-cooled head doesn't not make it a real marine engine. Some work, some don't. I've spent a lot of money buying a lot that didn't.
In short, pass on that one.

aHA!!

Thanks a lot, my new TRX 3.3 is sold, so I was about to spend the funds on that motor, Looks like ill give it a miss.

So, with a different engine, how would the flex cableusually attach to the crankshaft?

Heres some pics of the hull Im doing up, (Should have posted these in the 1st post!)

From the pics, can somebody advise me on a simple rudder setup? Thanks!

Here is the Flywheel and collet on my .21 nitro engine.

Had to do some mods to the flywheel and collet on the lathe, to get the collet to work on my engine shaft.

First off a 32 inch hull needs more than a .21 motor..second I dont beleive a word that guy says I have watched his adds for a long time and his specs leave alot to be desired plus his rating isnt that good...third that is a car engine they have slapped a water cooled head on look at the crank in the pic!! its an sg type crank for trucks and truggies no thread at the end of it to attach any kind of collet to attach youre flex shaft to. you would have to remove the crank and have it threaded on the end and hope there is enough material there ot get threads on it that would match up to anything...bottom line leave it be you would be way disapointed with it when you got it..my 2 cents worth

Thanks for the tips mate, much appreciated.

I ended up buying this today

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...EOIBSA:US:1123

Thought it would save hassle finding the collet, a matching pipe etc etc... Exchange rate is going to kill me though!

In your opinions, would this engine be too much, or not enough power for a 34 inch hull?

Thanks

One hint on the OS .46, try not to tear it down as they're a bear to get back together. They also need an 11cc pipe to get the most out of them, that's what OS themselves recommend.
Watch the bottom of the case as some have had a problem with them cracking diagonally.

Perfect!!!! now youre talkinhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif..
As for the size of the engine I think itll be fine for you and I will admit I am the wrong guy to ask about engine size..Ihave a 17 inch abs plastic hull with a K&amp;B21 hanging on the back of it and hanging beside it waiting on paint is a VERY shallow mono that measures maybee 24 inches and it sports a K&amp;B 45 in the middle...so if ti was up to me there would probably be one of those bad a'' CMB 1.0's in it
Well HAVE FUNN and take care

If this case cracks Im gonna be in tears!! Will have a good look at the pipe when the package arrives, hopefully its the right one, auction said it was matched!

And all going well, I shouldnt be tearing the motor down anytime soon, ever if I had things my way!

Cant wait to get it running!

As for a .21 in a tiny plastic hull, thats CRAZY!
