Prop/Rudder problem.

Hello. I have a Dumas Skater (appx.44"L x 14" beam). Problem:2 parts: 1. My rudder (which has the water pickup tube built in) is right behind the prop. I have to cant the rudder rearward appx. 10 degrees+ to maintain an 1/8" clearance between the end of the flex cable and the rudder, is this canting rearward going to hurt my performance on turns? 2. Has anyone else ran into this trouble and if so, what did you do. I'm probably going to toss it in the water as is in order to get the engine and pipe in tune, at least enough to run satifactorily so I can then spend time on the rudder problem. I'll try to include a couple pics in my next post if I get no replies. Thanks ya'll in advance. Richard H

Yes, canting the rudder rearward will kill your ability to steer. Anyone who's hit something and sheared a pin can tell you that.
Ever thought about using an offset rudder? Really, it's worth serious consideration. You'll love the ability to be able to remove the flex cable for lubing without having to mess with the rudder.
