RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
I have just finished my Ultra Sport 60. I have had the kit on the shelf since 1990. Pylon Racing takes up a lot of time. Some variations, I made a foam wing, rather than glue all those bits together. I had to save some time. I did not want a clear canopy/empty cockpit. I laid up a glass replica inside the original, I still have the original. The fuselage/tail is glassed and painted. All of the trim colours and wing is Ultracoat. Taildragger with Robart air retracts. Webra 60 engine. Tettra bubbleless tank.
Pictures show glass canopy, joining the wing halves, aligning wing and tail, end result.

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
I have been reading this thread with great interest. I have been flying my Ultra Sport 40 for almost a year now, and I enjoy it very much.
Here's a picture of it sitting in the grass at our field, and a couple of pictures of my brand new US 60 - KIT.

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
After 87,5 hours of building, my US 60 is ready for it's maiden flight.
1/3 flaps 2/3 ailerons, retracts in the original location, but I will move them out on the next build (I have another kit waiting).
SC .91 4-stroke and digital servos all over.

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
My US .60 is my longest surviving RC Airplane. I built it sometime in 1999. It has a G90 on it and retracts. I also added flaps, but they don't seem to help slow it down much. The engine has always kind of sucked. I should have just spent the extra money for the OS engine. I'll probably upgrade the engine to an OS sometime in the near future. This thing flies like it's on rails. Also, if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have installed retracts. They're more trouble than they're worth. It still has the original covering on it that I put on in 1999. It's been patched a few times. My US is due for an overhaul on the covering, engine and radio. I still have the old FM system in it. I'll probably remove the retracts, remove the flaps, recover the plane, add a new 2.4G receiver, install some higher torque digital servos and install a 91FX. Oh, this plane has also survived a midair. The trainer it hit didn't make it though. I went straight up through his left wing. The US dead sticked in and I had a couple of minor repairs, but that was it.
In the cockpit, is Emperor Zurg from Toy Story. I used to have an Extra 300 with Buzz Lightyear, but I flew it into a pole about 7 or 8 years ago.

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
Hey All just finished the build I posted about in the fall - a hyped US 40. Already have a 60 that I flew last season but wanted something a bit more extreme, ok more than a bit.
Jett 60LX with Tetra Tank
Hitec digitals all around (except the throttle)
pull pull on elevator and rudder
All DuBro heavy duty hinges with gaps sheeted over.
GP Retracts
separate aileron servos
Spektrum AR 6200
Lipo power with MPI 6V regulator
Weighs in just under 6 lbs. I lightened where possible - but didn't skimp on the wing - I double glassed it first layer well beyond the fuse sides.
Haven't flown her yet - field needs rolling first to fix winter damage - I'll need the whole field to land I think and I don't want to trash the retracts. I had planned a more elaborate covering scheme, but after testing the engine in the plane in the final stages of building, my reaction seemed like the best name I could give her and I kept the austere deco (I had planned on yellow flames at least) because I thought it looked menacing with the black painted canopy.
Per Bob Brassel's recommendation I installed a APC 9x9. Man I thought the prop looked so small. But I was turning 17,300 with the thing tethered in the garage so I that's right in Jett's specs.
No doubt this comment will create some controversy, but I'm hoping for 130 flat out (not out of a dive) running 10%.
OH I decided that I should remove the top view pic - I don't want to insult anyone with her name - if you text message a lot think of the 4 letter acronym that expresses extreme surprise. If anyone wants the pic PM me :-).

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
Hey all - finally have gotten all of the bugs worked out of my US 40 - man that Jett 60 destroys things, a lot of vibration.
Anyhow, here are the numbers. Friend and his radar gun joined me yesterday at the field, got 10 or so good readings up and downwind. Overcast, 60 degrees, light wind 0-8mph. 9x9 APC pattern. 10% nitro cool power.
We got an average of 126 MPH. A high of 129, 123 was a typical upwind reading. Amazing.
A remarkable airplane, even at those speeds smoooooth and predictable. Fun stuff. Good times.

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
Here's mine....
I just finished it Sunday (May 3rd).
I dare say.. she's probably the first electric powered UltraSport.
She has yet to fly. I am not qualified to fly it, so I am working out a scheduling time to get her in the air.

Picked up an US1000 at a local auction. Put digitall servoes and a YS 1.4 picked up from RC univers.Moter starts with the first flip.Take off just over 1/2 throtel.Cupel of flights grate. Spectrum 7 grate. Plane is tale heavy so I made a flight battery out of sub C 3800 ma 5 cell.Grate.Plane inded up in a tree.I taped bateries togeather.Dont !. Recever lost power and befor it rebooted, Inded up in a young 15' chris mass tree. Damadged the wing on both sides. Eavary thing ealse servived.
Sence i am rebilding the wing a copel of ? Should I shorten the wings to 74" to be pattren legal. In ground efect in flotes acros the field .And or add the fowler flaps, mentiond earlier. Note My intentions is to learn the sportsman pattern this year and compeat localy.I would like to invert the moter to healp with lateral balance and provide axces to the full tank, and maby look a littel better.Non of this presents to mutch of a chalange.
Wot dos presents a chalange is the local clubs noise restrictions of 97db. At full throtel peaks at 99 db.Iam using the mufaler that cam with it. Would a tuned pipe be quiter with out loosing min range? I have a mill , lath , axces to a 80 y old Machinest and a certified tig welder. So most things will be considerd.
Keep thim fling gh

Yes, definately reduce the wingspan to 72 -74" by removing the last bay on each wing. If will fly the patterns much better as well as landing a lot easier.
Spoilerons work better than flaps for short landings.
Check your prop. APC is probably the quietest. If you are running a Master Airscrew or a Mejlick (sp?), you can probably get to 97db by changing the prop. If that doesn't do it, go to a larger prop to reduce the full throttle rpm.
