Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
Please forgive me for getting off topic a bit.
I have an original UltraSport 40 from 1991 that I never finished building. I have the entire kit, plans, box, instructions, and hardware. I have completed the kit upto putting the "turtle-deck" on the fusealage. I am curious if anyone would want to purchase this from me? Just curious if anyone would be interested.

I've got 4 US 60's and 2 US 1000's myself. Otherwise I would take you up on your offer too. I will say that anybody reading this should think abou t buying from the man. Like Minn said, easily the best plane ever put out.

Sorry sdcranford for the delay in answering your question, yes I had it built at a proffessional hobby shop and it cost me US $ 200 plus monokote and glue.

I've got a kit on the way. I am contemplating having it built as I dont have much time to
do it. I'm sure i could build it but looks pretty involved and would probably take me a year
start to finish.

Well it is better to let somebody built for you, it should take maximum of 40 days. I would have helped you in this matter but i am far away in the Middle east.

Got a US1000 from a guy in Chicago. Flew it today. Equipped with a Super Tigre 3000
and a 16x8 3 blade prop. Flies excellent. What a great airplane. I too may start hoarding
the kits for future use.

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
I picked up this Ultra Sport 40 at our club auction this past February because I heard that they were such great flying planes. I have to agree that they are. Mine is powered by an ASP .46 which powers it around pretty well. With the light grey on dark grey color scheme, it is a little hard to see at times, which is why the previous owner sold it. It has a yellow stripe on the bottom of each wing for better visibility, but it needs more. One more thing to do this winter, but hey, they are long here in Minnesota, so I'm sure I will get around to it. I also got the plans along with the completed plane, so if anything happens, I should be able to build a new one.

The 40 kits that you'll have are they the kits from Tower Hobby?

The Great Planes Ultra Sport 40 that I have is the original style kit, not the Ultra Sport 40 + (3D version) that Great Planes currently kits. I have never seen a US 40 + personally, so I can't comment on how they fly in comparison to the original version. The original version has been out of production for several years now, although old kits do come up for sale now and then on ebay and elsewhere. The one Tower currently sells is the US 40 + version.

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
Hi,
I have US 60, i bought it used and havent flown as yet, it came with gummy OS 60 MAX-H engine, couple nights ago i wanted to put my B/New Magunm 65 GP in it, i test fitted it and had to carve out some wood by ply circuler spinner backing plate on fuselage, then i oiled OS 60 MAx-h engine with trans oil and now it seems to have huge amount of compression when i turn prop on the crank!, i am re installed OS Max engine back into the US, i am hoping to fly it this coming weekend..
Here is my US 60..Enjoy....

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
Well fellow US fliers. My US1000 met its demise yesterday. The engine (ST3000) being waayy to much for this
plane comes in VERY hot on landings because of big prop due to reduced ground clearance. So, this time landing
2nd flight for the day I brought it in, about 20ft off the ground and 40ft from the edge of the runway I decided
to cut the throttle. I reached over and flipped the switch, and must have bumped the right stick because it rolled
right and down. SMACK. Nothing but silence from the spectators, and the club pres goes into the spectator shed
and gets Wal-Mart sacks. Another guy that was training that day helped and we picked it. No pics...I'm very sad
about that. I just got it a week ago. If it had not have been for a tempermental motor that is tooo big for the
plane all would be well.
I keep telling my wife...I can not believe I did that. I keep thinking back to what I did wrong and cursing myself
for doing it.
A moment of silence please. Although I think it is rebuildable it sure is messy. Wings snapped in two, the fuse is
cracked all the way down one side. The ST3000 will never see that plane again. Several of the ribs are broken as
well as a loose firewall. And that neat covering job that guy did. He told me if I wreck it not to tell him about it.
I've got another US1000 kit under the table I am about to send off to get built, I sure loved all 5 flights I got out
of this one...they definatly are the best sport flying airplane every designed!!!

Yeah but gotta love the retracts. What a great looking plane in the air with the
gear up. Will build as a tail dragger. Just wont over power the thing so I can
slow it down for landing!

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
SDCranford...Sorry to hear about your US 1000 crash. I finally took mine off of the shelf after 2 years. Having it on the shelf for so long wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't new. I built the plane over 2 years ago and it sat in the PVC cradle I made. I just flew it today for the first time and it was a total rush. I have the ST 3250 on mine and needless to say it hauls-ice. Vertical is unlimted and level flight is pretty quick. Not sure how fast it is going but it is definately quick enough. What amazes me is how the plane does not bleed off it's speed. I'll post a pic as soon as I take one. Keep us in the loop on the one your having built.
