My $5 Goldberg Shoestring 40!

10 Attachment(s)
I bought this plane at a barn sale for $5.
There was no motor, electronics, Canopy or landing gear.
It was built in the early 80's and covered in silk and dope.
Originally hunter and yellow. It had never been flown.
I stripped off all of the covering and inspected the glue joints. It was build quite well, very sturdy. I made the air intakes and enclosed the nose around the engine.
I covered it in Cub Yellow and bright Red.
i had wheel pants, a Canopy and landing gear in my 'extra stuff' box.
I also had an ASP .46 on a shelf which I mounted on the Shoestring.
I have read that this is a great flying plane and they weren't kidding! This thing screams!!
I kept the Ailerons the same size as many folks enlarge them and it still flies fantastic!
Landings are smooth too.
It glides like a trainer. I ran out of fuel and was able to glide it all the way back for a perfect landing!
The .46 is way more power than it needs but makes it even more fun to fly.
I now have another favorite plane!
Not bad considering I got the plane for $5 and used all extra stuff to finish it!

That's pretty neat.

I built a CG Shoestring back in the 80's powered with a .40 K&B engine. It was a terrific flyer and fast to!

Always loved the lines of a Shoestring! The ASP-46 is a good engine for it too. Have had several of ASP's and they are fairly bullet proof. Nice restoration there.
