Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
Which of the following is your low wing trainer

RE: Favorite Low Wing Trainer
I saw you're doing a build thread on the Rapture. What's the purpose of the poll?
I would have voted for the Astro Hog if it had been listed when I voted. Not saying I'd attempt to build a Hog, I've seen the kit and manual; but I had one built and it is a really good plane. |
RE: Favorite Low Wing Trainer
Wanted to see what most peoples favorite is. Also wanted through seeing which is most popular which plane was used more. I have a feeling it is of course the Four Star, but would like to see numbers on the others.

World Models Rambler 45. Great flying and nice to look at, especially with the gear up.
|
RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
Mine was the 4* but I would highly recomend the astrohog. Its just a cool plane!
|
RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
I voted for the Four Star because you didn't have the Tiger 60 on there. The Tiger 60 was my first low wing after my trainer. The Four Star was my second low wing.

Pilot QB20L with an OS 25 FSR. Built the plane from a kit. Flew it til I wore it out. They're still available for anyone that's looking for something in the smaller size range.

Bridi Kaos. Then a Bridi Super Kaos.
|
RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
My first low wing plane was also a 40 size Kaos.
|
RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
Bridi Sun Fli, then a Kaos...many years ago.

RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
phoenix model sonic 25 low wing was what I did most of my training on. GP Super Sportster 40 was the first low wing I flew. My flying buddy has the tiger 2 and it seems to be an OUTSTANDING first low wing.(Hated building it but that's another story) Set the rates low and it's a puppy, crank em' up and it's very aerobatic

Sig Kiwi. One great flying plane.

RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
Midwest Chipmunk foamie with an EK radio and a Fox 15 (this was 30 years ago).

RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
WM Skyraider Mach II +TT.46
Great inexpencive plane. Nice flyer until I totaled it. R.I.P |
RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
None of the above. Built a SIG Mid Star 40. Didn't last long enough to know if I would like it. That one taught me to never use a soldered together control rod again. Bad solder job by me.

RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
My first low wing airplane was a XF-226 built from full sized plans published in RCM in the late 60's. It was powered by a Webra .20 which as it turned out, was not enough power to take off of grass. After several futile efforts at taking off, I put full down trim into my transmitter, then turned the airplane upside down and hand launched it for it's first flight. It flew fine, but I re-engined it with a ST G21-35 and it went like stink with this former combat engine.

Tidewater Super Pronto with an OS 40fp and a Futaba Attack4 am radio. :D
|
RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
I flew my first low wing before most of those planes were even invented. But as an instructor, if I had to choose one of those planes to train on, it would be the Tiger or Rapture

RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
A Cherokee Babe by VK - waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back then....1974? CRS is at work again :)
|
RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
tailskid,
The "babe" was a great flying plane! Both my dad and I built them in 1975 and flew the wings off them. My low wing trainer was an original Skylark 56 built from a Carl Goldberg kit in 1973. Nothing like the smell of Ambroid glue mixed with balsa dust. I think I flew it with a K&B .40. dawg |
RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
Right after the 'Babe' I turned my Falcon 56 fuse upside down made a low winger for it - sadly, it lasted only one flight:(

RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
My first low wing was a Goldberg Tiger 2, and I loved it. :D
|
RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
VK Cherokee, Webra Blackhead .61, World Engines Expert radio.
About 30 flights later, this plane also taught me that pinning the hinges.......especially the elevator hinges.......could have prevented a needless crash. [sm=crying.gif] |
RE: Which Low Wing Trainer Did You Use?
A plans built Fokker D7 Bipe with an OS 26 FS... talk about learning curve... that little thing took a beating before it finally got planted!
