Need a field

I got back into flying about a year ago and the places I used to fly nobody flies at anymore. I was wondering if there was anyone close to me that needs some company on the field. I live in Trion, Ga about 25 minutes from Rome, Ga. It would be nice if someone is close. Sorry if I put this in the wrong forum. If there's anyone out there my email is [email protected]. Thanks

Stone Mountain RC Flyers would be to much of a drive for you but feel free to come by if you find your self on the east side of Atlanta. Check out our club website. On the links page there is a google map of Atlanta (and surounding) area clubs as well as links to quite a few in the area.

Looks like a great place to fly thanks for the invitation. If you dont mind I have a question. Shortly I am going to get my AMA membership so I can fly at a club and I was wondering how do most clubs determine you are an adequate pilot before allowing you to fly at their field. Also the only thing I have flown in a couple of years is my electric super sportster would it be a good idea to find a non club field and brush up on my skills before attempting to join. My other planes are an extra 300s and a morris hobbies pen knife.

All clubs will require AMA.

I think the skill thing varies from club to club. With SMRCF there isn't a "formal" check flight. You can kinda gage a new persons skills by the way they handle themselves at the field and around their plane. If we think there is a question about someone's skill we usually offer to help or watch their back. With people totally new to RC we have club instructors that help people get to the solo point.

I got back into flying a couple of years ago after 4-5 years off. Though I knew I remembered how to fly I search out an instructor to watch my back and bring rusty skills back (and help keep my plane in one piece!) I would suggest the same for you. You'll get your chops back quicker and make some friends!

You can type your zip code in the search box at http://www.modelaircraft.org/clubsearch.aspx and choose a distance to see if there are multiple clubs in the area.

Our club doesn't have a formal test or evaluation for new members. If someone new comes in we ask if they are new to the hobby. If they are, or if they have been away from flying for a while, we get them hooked up with an instructor. If they say they know how to fly, we believe them until they prove otherwise.

RE: Need a field

Finally we got a field. We have had it a couple of weeks but today will only be my second time out. A friend of the guys I fly with are letting us use one of his fields and we already got a porta crapper and everything out there. Our runway is 500 feet long and 85 feet wide (it's huge). The first time I went out which was Sunday we had a total of 26 people out there at one time (not all pilots). I never knew there were that many people around here that were into the hobby. I believe that we will really enjoy the field and we hope to make it a very family friendly place.
