Default RCU is Still slow

I can have dinner before a thread opens up. Why not knock off the B.S. with the banner ad's, we don't look at them anyway. That should help people get to a thread without all the ad's. Those ad's take up a lot of space. If you have to make advertisements through suppliers, then create a thread just about that.
People are sick and tired of this site, the length of time it takes to download anything, and if something is not done to fix it, people will not continue to use it.

This sites been slow or crashed for as long as Ive been a member. 99% of the time if you hit New Posts and say it says there are 10 pages, you will get to page 5 or 6 and and then it will be like you said where you might as well go eat dinner.

I dont know the reason behind it but have accepted that it is just a slow site. Almost like the Dial Up days [:'(]

Edit: OMG I just made it thru 14 pages with no slowdown!

Did you know this is controlled by you? Near the top of the forum home page in the 'welcome' box you will see a link to "speed up site". Click it and take some control.

Nathan, I can't even get to that part. 4 times in a row I tried it, twice each from the home page, and twice from your link. Wanna guess what happens?

Not coming down on you, I know you are the poor mod who's taking the abuse for the new owners, but they really need to do something.

They are getting their clock cleaned by RCG with how the site is running now.

This used to be a whale of a site for me on the electrical side and sometimes even the gas side, just look at my post count. Now if you do manage to get on the site, you see posts from days past as folks have either given up trying to post or just moved on. Instead of multiple forums and threads being current, you are lucky to find one or two.

Not only is the site driving away the old hands, but it is hampering the newbies coming here looking for help. Old folks like me get tired of trying multiple times to get something posted and the newbies get no help as we can't post.

Can't imagine that the folks paying for ads can be too happy either.

Hopefully the site will get fixed, but at what cost? And will it survive even if it does? Folks are fickle, and it doesn't take long for them to get turned off on a troublesome site.[&:]

p.s. only took two tries to get this posted, lucky I copied it first.

I'm sorry but the "speed up site" only allows me to not load pics, smilies or Avatars.

What would really help my slow PC is a option to turn off all the adds!

Try using the site if you believe that. Then you won't believe it.

No. They are actively seeking advertising dollars. That will soon dry up if we are all lucky. RCU will then naturally go away. Sad but inevitable.

Let the advertisers that are stilll left know that most of the time, the pages that contain their ads don't even load.

The whole site seems fast and reliable now, 5 months later. I regret the bad remarks I made while replying hastily.
